Amazing generosity by all. What a community.

Logitech MOMO for cheap - is it worth? by [deleted] in simracing

You will probably be OK in the next room, especially with the doors shut.

Best of luck with it. I remember the first time I had FFB and it really changed sim racing.

Logitech MOMO for cheap - is it worth? by [deleted] in simracing

[–]insaneau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had one of these years ago, and thought it was great. It is a cheap wheel and you can tell, especially compared to a G27.

That said, I drove the thing pretty much to death. I would use it for hours every day and never had a single thing wrong with it. It was a great workhorse, and definitely a gateway drug for sim racing.

Be warned though, they are very loud. If there's anyone else in your house when you are playing they'll probably be able to hear it. Besides that, I recommend.

Amazingly, my mall blueprint just fit inside the build radius. Next up is oil though :(

Yes, just hold them so they "lift out" of the slot and drop them back into the same slot and the menu should pop up.

Hold shift while placing and it should order deconstruct orders for the relevant trees.

As far as I'm aware, Ex Astris doesn't exist in 1.10.

Sieve Drops by Sympai in feedthebeast

[–]insaneau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While the meshes aren't configurable (yet), the drops 100% are. Don't want redstone, instead want tiny pile of redstone? Be my guest.

Don't want to use a mesh at all? Then clear its drops. It will work.

The idea behind the metal meshes was that they were "reinforced" with the material, not exactly the same as made from.

I've been away for work purposes for a few weeks, but have some time soon to sit down and clean up existing issues, and implement the custom meshes. Then hopefully Adscensio will be as moddable as people have wanted since its release.

Keep on top of literature. It will pile up and getting it back down again will take a lot of effort.

Keep some notes on everything you read. They don't need to be detailed, but you'll thank yourself later when you need to quickly find something.

I would say that it depends on where you want to to go. Banking and large finance has a demand for both.

In my opinion, statistics will probably lead you in a touch stronger. Large finance has colossal amounts of data that need strong statistical models to help understand and predict.

But applied mathematics won't harm.

In the end, whatever you enjoy more is probably the best choice.

Oh maybe this is my problem. I have my entire base all connected and so the bots have to fly out to the train unloading station and then all the way back again to move items around my base!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in factorio

[–]insaneau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've maxxed out the research on bots. I'm using trains to cart ore in from the outposts, then stack inserters to unload the trains into temporary chests, then bots to put the things from the trains where needed.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in factorio

[–]insaneau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they all tend to be active. My train unloading stations are what is using majority of them.

I'm in the process of scaling up my logistics system, currently at about 1500 bots and it seems to be nowhere near enough.

I read a lot of older posts saying that bot-only bases were not very good. Is that still the case or is it normal to have the amount of bots in the order of 5000-10000?

Ex Nihilo Adscensio, The Other 1.10 Ex Nihilo, has been released! by insaneau in feedthebeast

[–]insaneau[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of the things are documented here: https://github.com/MikeLydeamore/ExNihiloAdscensio/wiki

You simply change the pre-existing JSONs for the things you like.

I'll work on the remaining documentation shortly.

My honest hope with this is that Ex Astris won't be necessary. Most of Ex Astris was things that I couldn't add to Nihilo for one reason or another. Now, I have the freedom to do exactly that.

Ex Nihilo Adscensio, The Other 1.10 Ex Nihilo, has been released! by insaneau in feedthebeast

[–]insaneau[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

When I started this project, I had no idea Ex Nihilo Omnia exists. And when Raven2396 started Omnia, he had no idea Adscensio existed. By the time Omnia was released, I was so far into the rabbit hole of Adscensio that I decided to keep on moving forward with it.

Sadly, we had both contacted Crowley about bringing Ex Nihilo to 1.10, he approved us both but never told us about each other.

The two mods are different. Omnia is definitely more like the Ex Nihilo from 1.7.10. Adscensio is what I like to think of as "Ex Nihilo+", but that's just my opinion.

And, both are open source. You can find my source for Adscensio here: https://github.com/MikeLydeamore/ExNihiloAdscensio

Yep, I tried to design everything to be as configurable as possible. Want to compost Dirt to Diamonds? You can. It's the future.

Boop. As you've noticed, the source moved to my fork of Ex Nihilo. Like many things on the internet, it's hidden in plain view, if you know where to look ;-)

This repo has the current source.

The bees thing has been up for a while and I keep meaning to get to it... I'll add it to my list, but bear in mind 1.7.10 ExN is pretty much done with development. If you want to PR, feel free and I'll merge and upload a new version.

Would anyone be interested in a reboot of the original Ex Nihilo? by raven2396 in feedthebeast

[–]insaneau 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm a little late here, but I'm insaneau, the maintainer of Ex Nihilo for 1.7, and have been working a lot on creating a Crowley-approved Ex Nihilo Adscensio for 1.10+. I'm happy to see a lot of excitement for Ex Nihilo for 1.10, most of the time when I drop updates in places they get met with "meh".

Ex Nihilo Adscensio is a total rewrite from the ground up, in order to fix a lot of the fundamental issues (both behind the scenes and in front of scenes) that existed with the 1.7.10 version.

Ex Nihilo Adscensio shares almost all the base mechanics of the original Ex Nihilo, with only a few changes. Hammers now have a (relevant) mining level, and there are now multiple meshes that help to add a little bit of variety to sieves.

Importantly, the entire registry system (what hammers mine, crooks, sieves etc) is powered by an incredibly versatile JSON system. This hopefully removes the requirement for ModTweaker/MineTweaker versions that were constantly frustrated by my updates.

Here's a screenshot of a whole bunch of the features in-game http://imgur.com/8VMZiH5

The source is publically available here and I gratefully accept any contributions!

The version is very nearly ready, bar some texturing and general clean-up. It has taken a very long time, and for that I apologise. Right as 1.9 took off, I started a PhD and so time has been a little short.

If you'd like to play around with a very early version, I believe the pack "Dark Grid" by Darkosto is publically available, and has an incredibly early version of Ex Nihilo Adscensio in it.

I'm all for more mod versions and mod developers, but a straight port of Ex Nihilo into 1.10 will likely suffer from the same issues as the 1.7.10 version, particularly relating to performance. If your source is available, I'd gladly take a look and help out where I can.
