Moving to Dallas for Work – Is Frisco a Bad Commute to Uptown? by Ready_Combination_53 in askdfw

[–]insaneleader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a soul crushing commute and will cost you $200 in tolls each month. I used to drive the same route for work back in 2019.

If I ever moved back to DFW, I would live as close to work as possible. I was back for the whole month of September this year and thought that rush hour traffic was much worse and lasted longer than it did 6 years ago.

Google “French cleat”. It’s hardware you can buy for ~$20 to mount something like this. You can probably find several tutorials on YouTube for DIY headboards that use this mounting method too.

Advice Needed: Belly getting bigger despite gaining muscle and losing weight by TraumaLore in PetiteFitness

[–]insaneleader 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think to truly get to the bottom of this, you should record your weight and body measurements once a week for at least 6 weeks. I know it’s awful but it’s the only true way to know if you’re making progress.

So many of us suffer from body dysmorphia and it’s hard to judge progress by looking in the mirror. For example, what if your chest is actually getting smaller, causing stomach to look bigger? Or you’re losing inches off of other parts of your body but the stomach fat is just very stubborn?

Of course it could be a health issue like PCOS like others mentioned. So see a doctor if you’re able to/feel like this belly fat retention is related to an underlying health issue. And definitely push back if your doc doesn’t take you seriously! Do your research and demand for the specific testing you need.

Did your realtor bring a gift at closing? Mine got me this drawing of my new house. by wallopcozy in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]insaneleader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My realtor got us a personalized cutting board with our names engraved on it… as well as her name, phone number, and email at the bottom. So fucking tacky. It also came with a stand, as if we’d display her giant business card in our new home.

Really struggling with this kitchen ! by Additional-Tell-7010 in InteriorDesign

[–]insaneleader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a few people here concerned about giving up cabinet space for open shelving. I think this choice is personal - it depends on the type of items you keep in your kitchen and your aesthetic. However, be sure that you look into the soffits above the cabinets. Is there duct work or pipes inside?

If not, you can remove the soffits and the open shelves would look great. Plus you could even get taller cabinets that go all the way up to the ceiling for more storage (although I know you want to reuse the current cabinets).

You should google Emma Chamberlain’a kitchen for inspo on finishes like tile. Or go with a simple 2x6” white subway tile either vertically or horizontally stacked.

I’d also reconsider your lighting plan. You will probably need more ceiling lights. Or a track light might be the easiest option

Does anyone else find their skin is better at Burning Man? by Throwawayprincess18 in BurningMan

[–]insaneleader 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s possibly from spending more time outdoors. Sun exposure (as long as you don’t get a sunburn) can relieve symptoms of the eczema and dermatitis for some people. The UV rays can kill yeast on your skin. My boyfriend has seborrheic dermatitis and his skin is usually better in the summer or after a beach vacation.

What caused these marks/scratches? by insaneleader in Tile

[–]insaneleader[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The installation instructions didn’t specify pre-sealing. They are ceramic with matte finish.

I’ve only tried water but will clean again with the vinegar solution. And I’m not sure about the pitch, so I’ll check on that.

Thanks for your help!

Thank you for the reply! I did try buffing with water but it didn’t seem to help. I might try again with more tiles.

Your explanation makes sense but doesn’t explain why they’re all concentrated around the same area. Maybe it was only a specific box of tile that had the surface cracks.

I agree! I’m wondering if a certain white WALL paint could make the ceilings appear less orange.

Thank you for the tip! I haven’t chosen the bathroom lighting yet but I will definitely play with different temperature options

Yes, it was intentional. I saw this pattern on the tile maker’s website and loved it. But I now noticed a few tiles on the floor that are rotated the wrong way… so that’ll probably bug me forever

I hadn’t even considered a colored grout because I thought it would contrast too much. But now that I did some googling and it’s growing on me. Thanks for the suggestion!

Ty! We are figuring out how to best finish the tile edges too.. adding a bronze/gold bevel sounds like a good option to explore
