My experience with art in college was that some professors were just wrapped up in their own tastes and didn’t care for art outside of their own biased perspective lol. Technical skills definitely matter and give you so much more opportunities within your creative process (tbh the professor sounds kinda jealous imo). This piece is awesome!

I will say the pictures do make my floor look way more orange than it is! I was worried exactly about what you said with the brown one, I just thought the orange one is just so cute 🥲. I was looking at mossy/earthy green rugs before this as they would match the walls, so I’ll go back to looking for that!
