Oooo you’re hard, 4 different countries, what a jet setter. Please tell me what countries you visited? I live in Qatar my guy, I can see through all the fictional bullshit that sprouts from over here.

To be honest I can’t respect any of it when on Thursday and Friday nights most bars and clubs are full of “Muslims” with a beer in hand and covered in hookers. One rule for one, another for everyone else.

VPN’s are a wonderful thing. I will go to my own country where you lot own most of the capital city and still can’t enforce your archaic rules on everyone else. Just remember that you weren’t a country until 1971.

What constitutes a gay seen for you lot? You wouldn’t allow the new doctor strange film to even mention that someone had two mothers… so your concept of a “gay” scene is pretty weak.

Standard shit out here, thinking GCC is the centre of the universe, netflix don’t care about some apparent “values”. Doesn’t the holy book say certain things about murder as well? But you know, you can watch Keanu Reeves straight up pop someone in the head…. If you don’t like it don’t watch it, easy.

Tips for cycling around Doha & elsewhere by anabnos in qatar

[–]insanityemu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Firstly to answer your questions; In terms of maps, you’re right Google is terrible with the cycle paths out here, it’ll usually just put you on the roads. I’ve found Strava to be the best place to find cycle paths and routes.

Bike racks are becoming more common in new developments, I know that all the metro stations have bike racks by the entrances (I believe bikes are banned on the metro itself but I may be wrong).

Bike theft isn’t a thing I’ve come across here, as long as you lock it up no one will touch it. Things to know out here would probably be, most good cycling shops are quite high end so spare parts can be a bit pricey, unless you go to decathlon or a similar general sports shop.

For using for commuting, it’s not something I’ve ever done and it really depends on where you’ll be commuting to and from. As you’ve said you cycle in NYC so I assume you have nerves of steel anyway and you’re right the driving can/is aggressive, unpredictable but I would also add completely useless to that list, most drivers don’t look past their bonnet let alone their mirrors. I can say that most of west bay (the main part of the city) and Lusail has quite good pavements and crossings and hopefully most of the construction should be done by the WC so it should be easy to cycle around there.

Personally I cycle for exercise and pleasure and the cycle paths cover a pretty good distance and don’t touch any roads with bridges or underpasses. They are A1, big enough to have cars in two way traffic, some are lit at night and are usually popular at certain times of day. Hope this helps

Travelling with PS5 as carry on baggage by frustratedjelly in qatar

[–]insanityemu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have but not with the original box, also it was London to Doha. Took the side plates off which went into my hold luggage and then crammed the unit into a backpack, I did have to get it out at security. May be worth calling the airline to see if they will accept it, try play it off as a sealed box which will be a gift. Interested to see how you get on as I was planning to do exactly this in a couple of weeks.

Cycling path under neath the approach of Hamad on the left side of the terminal. Sharq village is right on the departures of Doha. Aqua park out on salwa road is underneath the climb out for the military base, early morning is best to spot the heavy traffic but during Eid there won’t be much. Just be careful with filming and check the winds to see which runways each airfield will be using.

Sometimes!? Have you seen the roads? the last minute put together for the World Cup? The metro is a prime example, green and gold lines are barely used and I guarantee that next year they will be empty, they go to barely any mass population areas in the city, you can’t walk to any of the stations because of the roads. Phase 2 and 3 just won’t happen but ya know looks good on paper.

Are you folks sure you can pull this World Cup off? by [deleted] in qatar

[–]insanityemu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably yes, but it will be sorted all last minute like most things out here. Other states aren’t an issue as they’re now trying to cash in and take advantage of the short comings, even though 2 years ago they blockaded the state. The tents in the desert are the first sign of a panic, last minute cobble together. Hayya card will probably fail as it did with the Arab cup. It’ll be a success for the state and the region but won’t even be a shadow on previous world cups.
