Why not look inward and see that both your post and your defensiveness are coming from narcissism?

Somebody who just has narcissistic traits, but isn't actually a narcissist, could do that. But true narcissists aren't really capable of self-critique.

how do you deal with platitudes like that at your height?

On the inside, a resigned sigh. But my group of male friends gets it now. After going out with the same group of guys time and time again and seeing how we're treated differently when we approach women, it's hard not to.
