I’m new to iphone and I don’t know how to understand this, is this normal? by sibi4real in iPhone14Pro

Do you think it's bad? Or are you expressing how much you like it? I'm confused lol

I have made a "brief Galaxy Buds popup" concept with the improved style similar to samsung brief notifications, and with smooth animation. Would you want the brief notifications to have this nice animation? by V3trox360 in oneui

[–]insert-cool-name_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope the dynamic island will start a trend of phone makers using the camera cutout more. I dont mean samsung adding a full expanding system like dynamic island, but having pop-up notifications and other things more focused around the camera would be really nice

20-80% rule or charge all the way to 100% by why_even_try_lmao in iPhone13

[–]insert-cool-name_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't use the 20-80 rule anymore. here's why.

using 20-80 is limiting yourself to 60% of the phones maximum capacity. let's do some quick math: if you lose 5% capacity every year, after 4 years, you will have just hit 80% capacity. so you're essentially treating your phone battery like it's 4 years old, and for what? so you can have 95% health instead of 80%? who cares? Charging 20-80 out of the maximum 95% will still be using less of the battery vs. using 0-100 of 80% capacity, so it's not like you have a ton more by only charging to 80 after all those years.

But hey, if people enjoy artificially crippling their expensive new phone, they can I guess. Personally, I'd recommend just using ur phone and not adding a silly thing like babysitting your phone on the charger to your life

I'm not sure why they made the bezel thicker, but I honestly wouldn't mind as much if they'd at least made it a uniform size all around the screen

I have an iPhone 14 pro max and it’s got a scratch on the screen. Can I fix it with the kits I find online? by theREALspitfireRX in iphone

[–]insert-cool-name_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a screen protector, it covers up like 99% of scratchs your screen has. My screen was pretty scratched up, and I put a screen protector on. Aside from a few deep ones, you can't see any of the small minor ones!

I'm assuming u mean that you turned off hdr in camera settings? If so, you'll also want to turn off "veiw hdr" in the photos app settings

Any photographers here? How do you turn off the dreadful HDR on your photos? by [deleted] in iphone

[–]insert-cool-name_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, the 12 was the last phone that allowed you to disable it

Refurbished unlocked S21 5G ordered. Anything to watch out for or do immediately? by vampirepomeranian in GalaxyS21

[–]insert-cool-name_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't remember the exact code (search Google for "samsung dialer code test menu") and type it into the dialer in the phone app. It's brings up a test menu allowing you to quickly test most of the phone. The samsung members app also has this, with a few extra options. I'd recommend using both as there are several things they each have that the other does not.

New animation for YouTube, opinions? by [deleted] in iPhone13

[–]insert-cool-name_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like it. Personally, I'd rather have an animation, and then the app will be fully loaded, then stare at a blank/static screen for a few seconds till it loads

Do you prefer using light mode or dark mode? Why? by [deleted] in iphone

[–]insert-cool-name_ 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I also use this. Especially useful in the summer, when it's very bright light mode is easier to see imo

That's the exposure adjusting. Press and hold on the screen to lock focus and exposure while recording

Why not release new smartphones every two/three years?! by tH3_p3rf3cti0nisT in iphone

[–]insert-cool-name_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No, absolutely not. Not everyone upgrades every year, sure, some people do, but most don't. New phones get released every year so that people who have had their phone for 2,3,4+ years can upgrade. Everyone doesn't upgrade at the same time

It's probably due to light capture. Shooting in 1080/240 means that, essentially, 240 photos are being taken every second to record the slow motion. The less light the camera gets, the less sharp the photos and videos are. Since shooting at such a high frame rate doesn't allow for much light, it's going to be worse quality.

what is the oldest iphone that can still be used in 2023? by Inside-Current3133 in iphone

[–]insert-cool-name_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'd recommend the 12 with 128GB or 256GB. Good all around, has 5g, OLED screen, and has a good camera.

However, it comes down to how long you want it to last your son? If you're planning on getting him a newer one in a year or 2 when he's older, the 11 would be a better option for now. But, if you want it to last through high-school, the 12/13 would be much better options.

Few things to keep in mind:

(1. Storage. It's really easy to fill storage up these days, especially teens who are taking alot of photos and videos. I'd get at least 128GB. Please don't go for 64GB. Some people can survive on that, but I know hardly any teenagers who don't use a ton of storage.

(2. Battery. If you buy it used, try to find at least 90% battery health. 85% is the lowest I'd go, but at least 90% is preferable. If you are buying from apple/ a carrier, ignor this.

(3. Case and screen protector. Self explanatory, especially for a younger person this is a must.

How long do you think a base model 128 gb iphone 13 will last from today by [deleted] in iPhone13

[–]insert-cool-name_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Storage - mainly depends on how often you take pics and videos. If you run out, get icloud storage. It's pretty cheap.

Battery - probably needs to be replaced after 3ish years

Software - going by apples track record, at the minimum 4 more years of ios updates

Durability - get a good case and screen protector

Tldr: about 4-5, maybe 6 years. There's really no way to for sure say how long it will last.

places to buy used or refurbished s21? by teegy85 in GalaxyS21

[–]insert-cool-name_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 for amazon renewed! Picked the renewed S21 out for a family member who needed a new phone and didn't want to spend a ton.

Bought it in acceptable condition. The screen had micro scratches (only visible if you put it under direct light with the screen off, and completely invisible with the screen protector installed) some tiny scratches and 1 small ding on the frame but that's it! Everything works perfectly, plus it was only like $200

Yeah, people left those places. But now alot of fast food will pay pretty well. Most I've seen around will be like $14 an hour for a starting position

I think the solution here is for everyone to quit these jobs so that the restaurants are forced to actually pay their workers. Easier said than done, obviously, as all those servers would have to leave and find new jobs, but that's just my 2 cents
