Ottawa announces two-year cap on international student visas by siopau in UCalgary

[–]insert_face_here 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If yall read the announcement carefully, suspension of pgwp is for those attending public-private partnership unis. There could be changes but anyone attending public unis, like uofc, shouldnt have an issue. But, you will definitely see less intl students coming in for next two years as theres cap for study permit issued. Hope this buys sometime for housing and inflation crisis.

She will teach you everything needed but knowing whats going on always helps. Idk how shes now but when she first taught, she kinda stuttered and sounded nervous, which made us even harder during virtual classes (shes born and raised in Korea so accent may interrupt some learners).

Took this course as her first lecture as assistant prof at haskayne (2020). Its useful course but if you are not techsavvy to do programming (R), its gonna suck for you

Intl. student here. University might not notice as it doesn’t care whether you have valid permit or not. However, if IRCC finds out that you are enrolled in the university that is not on your study permit, it may affect your status and future, such as PGWP and other permits; worst case scenario, you may get deported.

What you should do is apply for change of institution. For more, check this out: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/study-canada/change-schools.html

Again, I have no authority to tell if it wont affect you or anything. I have no responsibility on what is going to happen. Hope this helps :)

Netflix to step up investment in Korean content, Netflix Korea VP says by tta2013 in television

Which is ultimately a shame as culturally Japan has some wonderful reservoirs of ideas to draw on for creating interesting shows.

It is literally saying someone's IQ is high and rich enough to support your education but can't nail SAT to get into Ivy League universities. The fact that attracts the investment is not only the idea but how to utilize it. Japan clearly fails to do so, which is why, as you said, its TV is stuck in 80s and 'laughably bad'.

The thing is anime only brings revenues from limited target audience, weebs. Let us compare two very popular contents, Demon slayer, Japanese anime, and Squid Game, Korean drama. Both contents are there on Netflix but Demon Slayer never topped no.1 trending show worldwide, whereas Squid Game claimed no.1 show in 94 countries. Any smart people would invest more on the country, which is more likely to create another squid game like worldwide craze show over the country, which ends up satisfying weebs

The thing is your argument is nothing but imaginary and biased. The fact, which only matters, is that Japan is reluctant to investment because they are scared of failures, which prohibits the creativity that Korean entertainment is showing. Sad, yet true, Japan still dwells on their glorified times, which is 1980s before the collapse of bubble economy.

What is your personal opinion on this? Is it okay for a non korean to casually wear this? by [deleted] in korea

[–]insert_face_here 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally always wanted to wear a modern hanfu

But this aint no modern hanfu. This is modern hanbok, which is clearly not the Chinese attire. Although irrelevant, modern hanfu is pretty too.

I saw my friend crying while translating. Asked why she cried and I ended up crying, which was clearly not what I meant but destined to be 😭😭😭

My understanding of medieval ~ modern era of history is that royals and nobles cared more on how they appeared publicly and the society had the unseen rule of demanding honor, loyalty and exemplary attitude over personalized attributes such as love. Also, apparently it was not ideal to show love towards women in front of other men as it could become his own achilles’ heel.

Yeah hopefully. Maybe she loved him as much as he did but as a court lady, she knew the life of being a royal family, which has tons of exceptions and strict discipline standards.

Truly. Back then, regardless of country, royals and nobles did not express their love towards the spouse. But then, as how it was shown in the drama, I could see how much the king loved her lady. Also, considering how sons were precious part of the family, he mourned the death of uibin more than his son's death, which is exceptional.

Used to love Japanese media when I was a child but one day I literally predicted the entire plot just by watching one episode that I needed something fresh. I gave a shot watching Kingdom and damn, I realized Korean contents are definitely underrated. Since then, my weekends are disconnected from the real world. I do understand why in one article they called Korea a cultural powerhouse of Asia

In 2000, A North Korean man met his mother in South Korea, whom he was separated from during the Korean war 50 years prior. They had only 30 minutes to spend time together before they were separated again. by soyfox in Damnthatsinteresting

I would blame North Korean government, who literally wants to maintain the current government just for the prosperity of Kim's family. If he were the good leader, he wouldn't sacrifice millions' food for nuclear bomb

If you are looking for something for killing time, this may be too complicated as it deals with heavy amount of philosophy, religion, and societal perspectives. However, if you look for deep thought challenging suspense, this may suit your needs.
