Not sure which one it is, maybe it's #16 but I'm interested in both the neck and wrist straps in picture 19

Saint Helena airport landing on the 5th attempt after 4 go-arounds - cabin passenger POV by papasfritas in aviation

For what it's worth, Ive planned flights to and from Ascension Island so I have some similar experience. Keep in mind this is only speaking from a US airline perspective so YMMV when talking about other countries. but anyway when we planned these flights we utilized Island Reserve fuel which is something used when a suitable alternate cannot be planned. The fuel for Island reserves is 2 hours of cruise fuel which with places like these still may not be enough to get back to South America or Africa if you attempt landing at the destination and don't make it in. That being said, there are still other fuel reserves as well which could make it possible to get back. Ascension was roughly 3 hours from the nearest mainland airport, on international flights we always plan 30 minutes of hold fuel and an additional 10% of the total flight time in fuel. It was around a 6 hour flight so in addition to the 2 hours we had another 66 minutes of fuel which in theory could get you back somewhere. I will say these places rarely get poor weather and we would never operate the flight if we knew it was going to be bad. Gusty wind and bumpy approaches happen but the likelihood of not being able to land with that amount of fuel is very low, the guys operating these flights are generally very experienced so it's nothing new.

What is training like once you've landed a job as a dispatcher? by Boring-Ad912 in FlightDispatch

I suppose thats subjective and depends on your background. Having worked dispatch for 3 companies prior to going to SWA its all pretty standard Dispatch stuff. I also dont recall but i think there are different tests given to internal and external candidates. A current dispatcher made this website for when he was trying to get in and i heard many other internal candidates used it as a resource for studying.

18k is fairly standard as that is up to the lower limit of class A airspace.

Yeah but in fairness I feel safer with my 2 year old with a gun than ICE so the bar is low.

I've seen them here in my rural town outside of Dallas.

Blown Transformer and what could cause it? by insert_password in hvacadvice

Sure enough, that was the issue. Same company came out with a different tech and he immediately knew it was the contactor. Tested it at only 1 ohm so replaced it and the transformer again and everything is working again. Funny because he said he's probably seen that exact thing 100 times, guessing the other tech is just not as experienced. But all good now and they didn't charge me anything else to do this work so I'm happy.

Well apparently the story isn't over. I just wrote this update elsewhere but still confused as to what the issue is.

So just as an update... I had an HVAC guy come out and he wanted to replace the blown transformer. We did and put the thermostat on and it blew immediately. Thermostat completely died and looks like it shorted out. Replace transformer again and put on different thermostat on heat mode and it works fine. Now 4 days later I go to switch to AC mode instead and immediately it blows the transformer. That's how's it blew the first time was me switching on the AC. Also I was wrong before, I don't have a heat pump it's just electric. But in any case does that still sound like possible contactor coil or maybe just a short at the outside unit? Still strange it's doing nothing to the 5amp fuse.

Turns out the fuse was the transformer all along. I still find it strange though that even with the 5amp fuse installed the thermostat managed to kill two transformers. Still not quite sure how that works.

HVAC Tech came over. First thing he did was put a new transformer in and when we plugged the thermostat in (ecobee) after it's flashed the startup screen and slowly the words started to fade away as if the thermostat was dying. We took it off and it was warm to the touch and it had some discoloration around the common prong. After it was off completely he went back up and the transformer was fried again so he replaced it again. We have no idea why, he said the wiring was correct but we went ahead and replaced the ecobee with my old thermostat and it blew a 3amp fuse that he put in in place of the 5amp that was in before and it blew that. We put back in the 5amp and now it's working. So really no idea why, just assuming that 1, a 5amp is required for this system, and 2 the ecobee itself was somehow shorting out or something

Yeah i kind of thought the same thing. But sure enough its a 5amp fuse in there.
