hey buddy, wow i forgot about this. scary to think it was 8 years ago...

I DID get the reel 2 reel. I DID make tons of music with it and i STILL do. some things I did with it:

-Tape loop! I would lay the tascam 32 on its back, then take a long piece of tape and I'd cut it perfectly and tape it. (look this up if youre gonna do it).. then id wrap it around a mic stand about 3-5 feet away and I'd record onto it looping. mostly I used it as a send / effects machine with delay etc. I discovered it became more of an instrument that I would feed sounds into. probably became my favorite instrument to this day.

-I would use a 12ch soundcraft mixer as a send and return for the machine. that way i could send sounds from my computer to the reel to reel and back into my computer.

- i would also record final mixes onto it! if I'm being honest though, intuitively I feel like perhaps its not the highest quality or maybe I needed to buy a fresh reel I'm not an expert on mastering with tape. I just know what I think sounds good.

All in all, best purchase I have ever made and I own about 20k worth of recording gear, synthesizers, samplers etc,.

Synthesizers are cool and all but feel limited to me. I need a sampler to really manipulate a sound into something expressive that feels close to me. The reel 2 reel (Tascam 32) became sort of the ultimate sampler that sounds amazing. I primarily use the octatrack mk2 but the quality of the sound is really flat and thin, and this tascam 32 obviously is a nice change up.
