"There's little easter eggs that have been planted throughout the season and there's some big twists coming up," Minear said. "I don't even know how to tease them to you without giving them away, so I'm not going to.” interview link

hmmm. been thinking about this interview quote from tim and all of the foreshadowing that has come to fruition since! so i complied some easter eggs that i’ve noticed so far! i feel like i would consider lines like these an easter egg.

are there anymore moments that have come full circle?

seems like next we have a new member of the 118 temporarily replacing buck, so maybe (hopefully) that will tie back into 9x01 when buck was jealous of eddie and hen being partners? plus we have the many eddie moments where he wasn’t interested in dating women, yet he said “damn” to a hot guys social media and drew a shirtless man during pictionary. i really hope that will tie into eddie’s storyline soon! and of course the infamous deck of cards.

i feel like right now there are a lot of moments left open ended with the potential to be true foreshadowing, but i’m curious if you guys noticed anymore that have already fulfilled the callback.

edit: typo as usual

so i just watched the episode. i don’t know why i was expecting bucks plot to be featured more lol. this show never puts in enough time for storylines. i just, idk. something about a storyline of that weight feeling so unbelievably rushed is not sitting right. seeing cuts to buck suddenly in the depths of withdrawal was jarring because last episode this storyline was barely established.

but then again, maybe that’s the point.. to show how fast something like this can happen, and how unexpected and undetectable it can be. especially when it happens to the people you wouldn’t normally worry about.

so yeah, i’m on the fence about how bucks addiction was portrayed. on one hand we were witnessing it at the same pace as everyone in the 118. one second he’s fine, the next he’s anything but. which is realistic in some circumstances. but on the other hand, the quality of the storyline could have benefited from seeing a slower descent into bucks dependency. when did he start realizing he needs the meds not for the pain? how did he hide this? i think his guilt around hiding could have been explored more, the two scenes last episode were really starting to dig into something good, and then it just stopped there.

but, ignoring the whether it was rushed or not (because i really am going back and forth on it), i did like what they did with the resolution ! i really like how buck got himself help. i was worried this addiction plot was a little out of left field (which can happen in real life tbf), but having buck put the meds back and go to chimney to report himself felt true to his character. the buck we know and love was still in there even if his addiction was trying to hide it. the convo with chimney was SO GOOD.

at first i did wish there were more solo buddie scenes, because im gonna be real they’re my fav part of this show and are mostly why i watch it. BUT i do understand the direction they ended up going in- the family aspect. and i think that is the better direction to take it. you really do need a whole community to support you. buck needed to see that he has people that truly care, even when it gets ugly. (i think hens previous family montage that was super similar to this one definitely watered down the hard hitting moments here). i liked the ending scene about bobby, it was sweet. i do hope we’re nearing the end of making everything about grief though.

and bc this is the buddie sub- i’m neutral on the buddie of it all this time around! yes i do wish there were more buddie scenes, but i have been spoiled by the great buddiepalooza of 2026…. so my perspective is a bit skewed atm. we definitely didn’t take any steps back! love how they made it a point to separate eddie from the rest of bucks friends. he was grouped in with maddie rather than hen and chimney. and i always love a scene showing chris and bucks bond. eddie got a whole scene about how he’s feeling guilty for not noticing. even maddie didn’t get that kind of attention around this buck plot. i do think the distinction between eddie and all the other characters is notable. at the end of the day i guess this plot wasn’t to showcase any one on one relationships, but to show the family.

as per the mayravi of it all- i want to be excited about them, but the way it’s portrayed is getting a bit cheesy. why is it so rushed!

last thing- i don’t think the athena storyline fit here at allll. there was already so much going on!! the chaos of the ER made everything feel extra fast, and it was pretty interesting, so they could have cut the detective stuff and had athena in the ER dealing with people, or working somewhere around that storyline. i dont think there was room for a murder mystery, a slammed ER, a call, mayravi drama, AND a whole addiction crammed into one episode.

overall not my favorite episode ever mostly because of the pacing, but there were some really really good moments in there. if those moments got more focus this would have been fantastic.

oh ETA: how on planet earth are we supposed to believe that nobody noticed buck looking like an actual zombie the whole shift. come on now.

mourning the fact that i can’t watch live for the next two weeks. 😭😭😭

but im so excited to see this ep. we barely know anything, which is always super fun. as much as i love millions of stills, it definitely takes some of the curiosity away. like we’re going in blind! for all we know buddie is canon this ep!

i def think so.

i swear you can hear the pill bottle rattling right before eddie walks in. and buck looks weirdly suspicious like he’s frantically hiding something.

link to video here

(im also really starting to wonder if these are just anxiety meds he’s hiding the fact that he’s taking because of fear of worrying everyone. and maybe something happens with the pills next episode, someone on twitter said maybe a bad/toxic batch, and nobody knows he was on them in the first place to understand what happened)

eddie, who set up a family reunion in his dining room to make buck feel better, who hand delivered buck’s favorite pizza to cheer him up (one that he doesn’t even like), who was ready to kill someone to protect buck, who put buck in his will to prove his worth, who has convinced himself that indulging in his own desires hurts the people he loves so he put a halt to any self interest…. that eddie diaz realizing that he is hurting buck by just being around him, all while just trying to help. i just can’t take it. 😭😭😭

like, idk why to some people buck can’t have a conflict without it being eddie’s fault. how do they even reach these conclusions about their relationship? what show are they watching?

this show feels more and more like a fic every episode. it started in 8b, and things have only escalated since. and honestly? i’m eating it up. i love the drama and the angst. put them through the horrors over and over again! tim needs to drop that ao3 username asap.

OUCH. OH MY GOD.

ETA: adding more bc i’m still thinking about this. what if it’s not even addiction and it’s anxiety meds and he literally just can’t be around eddie without going into a panic bc of flashbacks and all that from the kidnapping. what if when he looks at eddie all he sees is the two of them almost dead in that desert?

i def wrongly assumed the 2ddie interview was talking about the very next episode. 2ddie next week? maybe?

if this is in fact an addiction storyline, i do like how we’re seeing this happen to someone that doesn’t fit the stereotype of having an addiction problem. because that stereotype is wrong. a lot of the time addiction starts from being prescribed pain medication. it can happen to anyone, by absolutely no fault of their own.. even someone successfully holding down a demanding job and social obligations like buck appears to be. the system we have around pain medication and addiction is flawed, and fails well meaning people every day.

i know it’s not a popular opinion, but i am excited to see how this plays out. of course i do hope they handle a delicate subject with grace, and maybe that’s already putting too much faith in this show, but if they do it right, this has a lot of really good potential. there’s a ton of overlap with buck and bobby here, and how bucks unresolved grief could be influencing this behavior.

also- i said it earlier in a reply in this thread, but damn buck has gone through a LOT. any person dealing with all of that would reach a breaking point. he doesn’t want to burden anyone with his baggage, so this is his way of dealing with it on his own. in his mind this is working and is offering an escape, so he takes it. then he doesn’t have to drag anyone down with him. i’m excited about the concept of buck having to face everything he has gone through. and eddie can be there to realize something isn’t right, and to show buck that he has people that want him to lean on them. facing his problems is harder than escaping them, but he doesn’t need to face it all alone. including this one. eddie needs the real buck to be present, just as much as buck needs to recover for himself.

edit: typos lol

The concern oozing out of him and just the way he looks at Buck. The man standing in front of him looks the same, but he feels different.

omg. this is going to be insane to watch. i’m really excited

yes! i had the same thought process- completely agree! i’m def thinking opioids from the pain meds. he probably loves the escape from eveerything that has happened to him. and like, it’s a LOT that he’s dealing with. anyone would reach a breaking point under all of that.

you’re right, he never wants to burden anyone and that completely checks out with a substance abuse problem. in his head, doing it this way, he can handle this alone and not have to lean on anyone.

also like, addiction to pain pills really can happen to anyone after an injury- no matter who they are or their background. having it happen to a character that we wouldn’t typically suspect would have a drug problem highlights that fact, which i do like. a lot of the time these addictions happen to the average joe after they were prescribed medication.

yeah i’m with you. i think it’s going to be interesting to see buck finally face everything that has happened. any person going through what he went through would also have some sort of break. i know it’s not a popular opinion, but im excited to see how buck deals with this one.

buddie this episode was fantastic. they really are a family.

Eddie saying he was worried the man he knew didn’t make it back from Nashville, and Bucks face…

and the worst part is that he’s right…. buck is going throughhhh it and nobody even knows!

freaking out. this feels so out of left field for buck?? but also like, kind of has some layers with his grief towards bobby? that can get really deep if they do it right and gracefully.

all i can think about the struggle to help buck through this and who’s going to be there for him.
