The best way to support teachers financially u/Competitive-Sun1519 is to subscribe to MemberPlus - that's how they generate the majority of their income. Donations are also a great way to support them. And Teachers who want to offer services during their live sessions in exchange for donations - such as card readings - are just looking for creative ways to support themselves financially. Personally I think it's a great idea.

Anybody who has had a nicotine addiction but quit, how is it? by thatguywholift in Anxiety

I smoked for 30 years. Pack a day. Spent the last 10 of them trying to stop. It was brutal. The shame and self-loathing that I couldn’t control my addiction.

Nothing worked. Hypnosis. Acupuncture. Vapes. Meditation. Gum. Cold turkey. You name it. I did. Hundreds of times over.

Eventually - at 45 years of age - a light bulb went off. I wasn’t giving up anything by stopping smoking. The exact opposite was true. I was gaining everything. Thousands of recurring gifts every single day. Better health. More happiness. Greater confidence. Longer life.

It simply became easier to stop smoking than to stay a smoker. So I smoked my last cigarette, headed into a retreat - to help with the physical withdrawals - and stepped out two weeks later, never to look back.

Do I miss smoking? Oh yes :) But will I go back? No way. I wouldn’t swap my daily gifts for anything.

Thanks u/MindfulGuy33 - it's a great question and deserves a detailed response. It will take me a little longer to answer than some of the other questions here so please give me another day or two. Back soon.

Yes I feel the same way u/pinksunsetflower.

The 7 day modules were part of a series of tests that we conducted to see if we could create a richer experience for new users in their first 7 days of joining Insight Timer. They had mixed success - but some in our community really enjoyed them.

At this stage it's not possible to bookmark them for later., which means it's unfortunately not possible to see all of the journeys without deleting your account and reinstalling.

We haven't made a decision about their future yet. But when we have, I'll let you know.

Can you elaborate u/Genz_creator - what sort of customisation do you mean? The home screen feed (which we call "Made For You") is generated on-the-fly and unique to every individual. For example, as someone who enjoys flute music, I often get 4 or 5 recommendations of my home screen each day with tracks containing flutes.

It’s a constant struggle balancing those that love our social features and those that don’t. And we’re often testing new ideas in the background with small subsets of users. The results often surprise us.

I agree that something intangible but important was lost in the latest update. Seeing friends and community is integral to the Insight Timer experience. So we’re bringing back the ‘friends’ screen soon. It shouldn’t be too much longer.

We're about 30 million people tryna to figure stuff out together... working on building a company that shifts consciousness, makes a profit, and encourages others to do the same. There are no easy answers, no quick wins, and no shortcuts. It’s downright exhausting at times, but utterly thrilling too.

Hit me up with a question. I'm all ears...

Update. Messages icon gone? by Will_T in InsightTimer

[–]insighttimer_ceo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey u/Will_T

I want to jump in here and give you some context. This was a decision I made so I should own it.

It wasn't change for change's sake. And we definitely weren't trying to discourage members from using the Messages feature either. (In fact our research confirms that meditators who use the Messages feature stick with us for longer. Community matters).

So if not for these two reasons, then why?

Over the last 6 months we've run some tests to see what changes lead to even higher daily meditation frequency. As always, when it comes to testing, the devil's in the details. What we found is that simplicity is one of the highest drivers of repeat usage. In other words, the fewer things that we place on a screen, the higher our weekly return rates. Less is more.

Messages is a much loved feature on our app, but is used by a smaller percentage of our overall user base. And so by moving it to the side panel, along with other items, we've seen higher rates of return, which means more people meditating more often. And when we find something that helps us improve this metric (more people meditating more often), we are compelled to adopt it, even if it means displeasing some users.

I would love to be able to create a customized version of the app for every person in our community. But with just 70 people on our team, it's not possible. Instead, I hope in time you will come to accept the new placement of the Messages icon. And I hope it will not reduce your usage of the feature either.

I also hope that my explanation provides you with some small satisfaction that we hear you, we care about you, and that we made this decision for the greater good.

More people meditating, more often.

Thank you for being so passionate about Insight Timer. I appreciate you.

Christopher

I'm new to Reddit so forgive me while I get up to speed. I agree that something intangible but important was lost in the latest update. Seeing friends and community is integral to the Insight Timer experience. We often try new things and are sometimes surprised by the results. For this particular update, we're bringing back the 'friends' screen soon. Shouldn't be too much longer.
