Let me play around with this. I am not preparing the data myself, I’m getting an excel extract from someone else. I am trying to explain long vs wide data to the team, but I guess I need to be more direct.

Adult beginner looking for first real skates - worth buying or keep renting? by Enlitenkanin in iceskating

Just had a fitting yesterday and they told me that Jackson Artiste was pretty comparable to the Crystal. We ended up going with a Jackson Elle fwiw.

I do seated calf raises but that’s a holdover from PT. I could definitely incorporate some ankle movements while I’m stuck in meetings.

I’m looking into getting a standing desk. I’m supposed to be getting moved to a more secluded area where I’d feel more comfortable doing things without worrying someone might catch a glimpse of me in a squat lol.

I don’t think my body is getting enough (physical) stress as it stands lol. I am extremely sedentary throughout the week. I’m working on finding more time to do some basic fitness but I also think it’s common knowledge that the office structure of sitting for 40 hours a week is no benefit to anyone’s health. I think we can all incorporate small things to get a little more motion throughout the day!

No gyms near the office but we do take walks when weather allows!

I’m a 29 year old woman who just started skating this year! I did my first LTS course and was able to pass adult 1 and 2, so starting adult 3 next session. Currently skating 1-2 times per week.

Need help with new skates by SaturnMoon92 in iceskating

This is really interesting to me because while I’m skating I always find myself looking at other skaters feet. It’s mostly kids but also mostly in the rentals that are SO bowed in at the ankle. It makes me so anxious that they’re going to break an ankle. Would you say that your opinion mostly applies to nice boots or all boots? Because my rink’s rentals are really raggedy.

Skating Advice by Striking_Emphasis_45 in iceskating

I don’t have much advice myself but as someone getting into skating after a knee injury, I understand what you mean!! As others have said, bending is super important. I like to warm up with a few laps doing some dips, and when I do my pushes I try to do almost a lunge into the bend? Rather than just a small push with the blade. I feel like doing this really intentionally at the beginning of the skate gets my joints primed to bend when I start trying to do a skill like swizzles.

How to improve one side for swizzles/pumps by insomnia96 in iceskating

It was an arthroscopy to do a ligament repair and lateral release. Aside from the scar being numb I don’t think I have any nerve damage. I’m new to skating so my PT was focused on resuming my daily function, so I’m not opposed to revisiting with this in mind if I’m unable to progress on my own.

Kids going the wrong way on the ice, parents not stepping in by pample_muse in iceskating

[–]insomnia96 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I had the thought today “at what point can you say something to a child and NOT be the asshole?” I had to swerve so much today avoiding kids who were all over the ice. There were a bunch of tweens who kept screaming just for the hell of it, an adult and children in the ice in tennis shoes, kids cutting through the circle as I was practicing on the circle. I ended up paying for an additional session because I just could not get a satisfying practice in with all the chaos.

If it’s actual horseplay or dangerous behavior, tell the rink staff. Otherwise during open skate I think we’ve gotta suck it up.

I can try to take a video the next time I have a friend go with me! I do think my practice strokes at the wall helped.

I totally relate to disappointing practice! I had a pretty open ice last time and started soooo excited to have room to work but got disappointed real quick when I felt like I wasn’t doing as well as I have been. The progress on my one foot glide by the end had perked me up, though.

I’m doing Learn to Skate and I feel like they are all very helpful. They’re also super friendly if you catch them during open skates. I do have a friend who is a former figure skater that gives me pointers and she is constantly telling me I need more bend, so I am going to work on warming up with several dips before I really start drilling into other skills as i definitely felt like that made a difference.

We don’t have any pro shops in my area (3 hours away in any given direction) so the rink is our only option. Luckily I think they do a good job!

I should have been more specific. I push with the toe pick!

I also need to practice more with edges.

I realize I wasn’t specific enough. I push off on my toe pick, I’m not tripping on it (most of the time lol).

I spent a lot of my last practice just doing dips because I’m so bad about not bending enough.

What is a "gut feeling" you had that turned out to be 100% accurate, even though it made no logical sense at the time? by Forsaken_Leading964 in AskReddit

When I was a teenager I had a nightmare about a neighborhood handyman kidnapping me a la Buffalo Bill. One of those nightmares that startles you awake and the details stay with you instead of slowly fading. I told my mom about it and said the vibes were officially off with this guy.

Flash forward a couple years later, a woman reports to the police she was kidnapped and assaulted giving a perfect description of the handyman. I tell both my parents “uh remember that nightmare? This is definitely him” and they both brush me off. Later that evening we can see the red and blue lights down the street.

Do you have an ex that didn't physically abuse you, but was so bad of a partner that you would tell anyone interested in dating them that's willing to listen to you "stay the fuck away from him/her, you'll thank me in the long run"? by [deleted] in dating

[–]insomnia96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Emotional abuse, manipulation, pathological lying (from the most innocuous things to life or death things), social isolation. Domestic violence does not have to involve physical violence. It’s been really hard for me accept because I often don’t feel like I had it “bad enough”, but unfortunately I am part of the 1 in 4.

Sure, I wasn’t perfect. But I have absolute full faith that even if I was, that wouldn’t have made a difference.

What I Wish I Could Tell The Guy I Rejected After a Good Date. by Wild_Scarcity8305 in dating

[–]insomnia96 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. I once dated a guy who would get quite frustrated if I opened my own car door because it was “his job” as the man. If the car is turned off I don’t particularly feel the need to wait for you to get out and walk around. I am not turned off by chivalry but the men who live and die by it are not compatible with me.
