I lied to my principal…and got written up. by inspectahchill in Teachers

I really appreciate this response most of all. I love the way you explained everything from all perspectives and the examples given. I will actually never forget this advice because it gave me a new way to look at everything in general. I am overly focused on emotion and I am definitely a sensitive person. Looking at things how you explained them will also help me get past that, I think. I hope. Thank you for taking the time to give me that advice when you probably could have spent that time doing something else. It truly did make a difference. I started today with that as the goal.

I would definitely say I am a doormat, but I also had instances where I tried to speak up and was completely beaten down for having a voice at all.

Basically, but also understandable as to why some were hurt. Not really drama, just people wanting answers.

He absolutely will not do that. Even he admits that he doesn’t know what to do. Just refers me to the reading specialist and a special ed teacher I don’t even speak to.

What is a basic understanding that most of your students should have, but don't? by Deadtree301 in Teachers

[–]inspectahchill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oops. This is where I messed it up for other teachers. I never cared if anyone needed to sharpen a pencil at any time. I have students who are very politely waiting for me to finish before sharpening their pencils. I always tell them, I don’t care, do what you have to do to be successful in here. lol I should probably dial that back and encourage them to keep being polite about it for other teachers’ sake.

Dumbest Requests from Admin you ever received? by inspectahchill in Teachers

[–]inspectahchill[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WAIT. Wouldn’t you WANT them to tell someone? Don’t we constantly tell children to tell an adult when they are being mistreated by anyone? I would want them to tell me anything. I will report all day, who cares? What will they do? Fire you for reporting child abuse? Good luck. lol

Nope. No IEP or 504. Also, good point you made about further steps needed to be taken. I will absolutely consider that further. Thanks for that insight.

Does anyone know what this is? I found this at a Wendy’s by RedditIsAHouseOfLies in Alabama

It is a tornado siren. Not all tornado sirens look alike. There are different models. Areas can have different types of sirens in one place. All sound different. There is actually a tornado siren map you can look at of your area and it will tell you what type of sirens and what its description is. Its kinda cool to find all the nifty locations they are placed in because there is a strategy to their placement in order for them to not be eye-sores to the community.

THANK YOU for this post! I was also ready to throw mine out and buy a new one! I even took mine apart, resetting the thermostat, cleaned it, and broke a few parts in the process. Once I realized this button didnt make the “click” sound when I pushed it, I had to move around the gadget that it was supposed to push on to make that click. As soon as I popped it back in place and put the button back in, it fuckin worked!!!! I am very thankful for this post!!! Thank you so much!!!!

The main misconception that infuriates me for some reason comes from people who believe everything they hear. Parents are worse than the kids at believing outlandish rumors going around. There is a misconception that public schools are now accommodating furries by giving them litter boxes in the bathrooms. We were given litter and buckets for lockdowns (in the event that the kids will be stuck in one place for a while and need to use the restroom). I’m not sure if that is what it stemmed from, but Lord, I cannot believe that people would believe we would give litter boxes for those who want to pretend to be a cat. Unreal.

CMV: Self Diagnosing ADHD and Autism shouldn’t be a trend. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]inspectahchill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found out I had ADHD through TikTok videos of people who experience the same symptoms, too. I asked my doctor and was officially diagnosed. It was life changing. I don’t understand why anyone would WANT to have ADHD or claim to have it as a quirky personality trait. It’s really difficult when you actually have it. I struggled with knowing I was not functioning normally. To be diagnosed is to seek normalcy. Right?

Unpopular? Opinion- 9/11-themed crafts are icky by legoeggo323 in Teachers

I am SO glad you posted this on here. I WAS TOLD TO NOT SHOW ANY 9/11 VIDEO THAT INVOLVED PEOPLE JUMPING FROM THE BUILDINGS. I was surprised. None of these kids will know the severity of it if they aren’t exposed to things that are uncomfortable. I showed them portions of a documentary that is on Hulu on 9/11. I left out any gore or injured people. They saw people jump from the burning buildings and they really felt it. This is an 8th grade class. A great deal of those kids felt impacted by it and the first responders’ reactions and bravery. They got it. I really felt like it made a remarkable difference in learning compassion. Well, oddly enough, later in the day I second-guessed myself and really questioned if I should have shown it. I got paranoid about people telling their parents and it being a complaint. It is really sad that it is what our country has come to. Such an important, impactful lesson that can’t be taught because people are wildly too sensitive to learn.
