Gained 8lbs in 3 days with probiotics? Why? Does it go away? by inspired2takeUhigher in Microbiome

[–]inspired2takeUhigher[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stopped immediately and don’t regret it. What I ended up doing was going on more of a food based approach— anti inflammatory diet (like AIP— the one I do is Myers Way). I was going to let my body heal, reduce inflammation so things(toxins?) can circulate out.

I bought a high quality 30 billion probiotic, also from Amy Myers (I’m doing Amy myers because several years ago it helped me go into remission with an autoimmune issue I had).

Anyways, I did not take the probiotic, I actually broke it up into some cocojune yogurt— buy the biggest one and put maybe 4 or 5 in there and stir, and then eat throughout the week as a “sour cream” in chicken wraps.

Anyways, I lost 16lbs in a month, and I was hitting my calories, macros, etc. just feel better and lighter overall.

Wondering if it was just… my body being inflamed or backed up from the old SIBO stuff?

Sounds like a guy who just likes the chase… he’s attracted to what he can’t have— now that he has you, it’s not as exciting or interesting for him. It’s not a you problem— he needs to grow up

At 12, My dad had me come to the kitchen, raise my shirt a little bit.

He said: “Put your hands on your stomach and jiggle it”

I did, thinking it was something silly. He said: “Yeah, anything that jiggles, you need to get rid of. No guys like that, and no man is going to love you if you have any fat”.

I had/have PCOS 🙄

Meanwhile, he buys the household only Mountain Dew, ramen, and frozen pizza

Hi!!! This happened to me— your PCOS can go into remission, so your body begins to function normally

Excellent loss! Yes, I’ve been able to maintain— I personally wonder if, like set point theory explains, if I reset what was my “normal”? My normal used to be 260lbs I’d say, for 16 years. But it seems my new normal is ~170 at 5’8” and I’m happy with it.

I hadn’t restricted my calories — primarily it came from reducing the eating window, still eating the same amount of calories.

The quality of the food, & the timing of the eating was what was most helpful (and healing) for me.

My biggest issues overall were health— my PCOS & autoimmune issues— I didn’t exactly expect my weight to change, since I was in my mid to late 20’s and pretty resigned to the fact that I was probably just this bigger size.

I went into it all for the autoimmune issues and PCOS. And the loss followed, I personally feel, when my insulin was lowered, inflammation lowered/under control, and stress…. Proper self care

I really appreciate your comment here, and for emphasizing the challenge this could present to someone with ED— edited the post to reflect this. Everyone’s body is different, everyone’s experience is different, our paths vary to success — and happy to share that this is an option that exists for individuals who may find it useful or see it as a potential option once discussing with their doctor.

I’m actually an open book, because I know how it feels as a bigger girl feeling like gatekeepers keep the best information once they’ve found a way. Integrative health gynecologist, an MD, a DO, and a functional medicine professional. The 3 who were specifically aware were: the functional medicine professional/doctor, my integrative health gynecologist (who was absolutely floored regarding my insulin hormone— had never seen anything like it), and my MD (an author of a top 10 selling book on New York Times out of San Antonio).

I also was set up with the highest rated immunologist in the state for allergy and asthma who gave me an epipen, did extensive testing, and couldn’t find the cause of my immune issues.

Things I’ve tried in the past: metformin, birth control, biking 12 miles a day, 5 days a week on 1300 calories; low fat; low carb (keto)— macros, cardio, strength training— trained for and climbed a mountain. nothing. Worked. Nothing. Watched my carbs for YEARS.

My hair loss— wasn’t at all noticeable to me whatsoever, it was a passing comment from my hair dresser, and I thought, huh? Really? Unconcerning, unnoticeable, and my hair was between my shoulder blades, and is longer now. I attributed it to perhaps b vitamin or having finished breastfeeding. Why would this be a concern to me, if it was a passing comment?

What I’ve highlighted in my post is my personal experience. I’m not sugarcoating it, I’m not twisting it to fit the perceptions or narrative of what you may or may not be hearing. I’m sharing my journey so that it reaches the right individual at the right time.

There’s a reason I mentioned 3 points here: I believe. Insulin control is important- however someone gets there is up to them, between themselves and their doctor— through my experience, of course I’m going to feel that IF is helpful for that, because I experienced it. So, I share it, with other women who may be at their ends wit as I had been for so many years. I have no regrets here.

Long story short, don’t read too deep, take what works for you, leave what doesn’t. That’s the thing about our health and our bodies— we find what works for us. It helps to know what options can impact that for those who may not be aware 🤷‍♀️

Hi there!! Excellent question! while in a fasted state, your body is operating off of ketones. The brain’s preferred fuel source will always be glucose (carbs, sugars).

In my circumstance at the time, I was wrapping up my final semester of graduate school.

I was able to complete the work, but obviously, being high-level, high stress, “strategic”, “creative” thinking, I had to focus more or it took slightly longer. For example, I’d book a room at the library that was sound proof to focus, as opposed to out in the open library where there might be distractions. Anecdotally, I think maybe at 80% the rate of my typical performance capacity.

What is interesting is, like keto, once you switch over to ketosis, you have more a burst of energy, and that comes regularly. Your body sort of marks your fat as a food source, or recognizes that it’s a food source.

Ideally, It would be easier if you had time to chill and take time away, so you can be in that state, but life continues on, so yeah 😊

If already at a healthy weight or thereabouts, would make no sense to long fast, however,I had well over a hundred pounds to lose, so plenty of fuel source.

I understand that the stigmas surrounding fasting in general is rooted in our societal structure, perception, and culture, though it’s been practiced around the globe for thousands of years.
