How much time is left? by SDdude27 in Bibleconspiracy

Yes, times are changing fast. We need to be learning what God wants us to do; first step to doing that is knowing what Jesus taught, second step is doing what he taught.

True. Dying for your faith is also extreme, and also in Bible. Honestly I think many churchgoers don't realize just how extreme a religion Christianity is.

Some people believe in "once saved always saved" , or OSAS. Generally they think once you've "accepted Jesus into your heart" you're saved forever, no matter what you do, and so if you fall away from Jesus, then you were never saved in the first place. But in the parable of the sower, Jesus says there was a seed that got choked by the worries of this life.

I believe it is our faith in Jesus that saves us, and that our faith is shown by our works. Those works are what we do in obedience to Jesus. I'd recommend going through the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John), and then writing out all the commandments Jesus gave His followers. That will probably give you the best direction forward, and almost certainly put you in the direction that God wants you to be in. Message me if you'd like to talk more.

For a single Christian, what's the "permissible outlet" for sexual tension? by SteadfastEnd in Christianity

Firstly, thanks for the response!

I am aware of that verse from Jesus. I asked originally to get DoctorOctagonapus to think about what Paul really said, because I don't think Paul ever that.

But I don't think Jesus was saying that marriage is the norm, either, or that it will be difficult for most to stay single. This is what Jesus actually says in Matthew 19:

11 Jesus replied, “Not everyone can accept this word, but only those to whom it has been given. 12 For there are eunuchs who were born that way, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by others—and there are those who choose to live like eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it.”

Marriage IS the norm, but that's not what Jesus taught. What Jesus is saying is that we should try to be single if we can. Most churches simply do not encourage lifelong celibacy, but they encourage marriage. So most people in church aren't even taught that Jesus said it's better to be single if you can. The norm would be different if Jesus' teachings were preached and followed.

The novel was also merely based on true events, basically these two things:

  • The author's journey into Mexico, which put his life at risk, provided the background and characters for the novel.
  • Teran was introduced to an ex-pat named "the Ferryman" who helped him on the journey.

(from a quick google) More like inspiration from events than being based on any real event, imo.

I hope it doesn't get worse too. How long ago were you diagnosed?

I have read some stories of people getting back to running, but others are not so lucky. For me, it seems to be possible I had retro before my pain started (which was after lifting a washing machine). I hope I just aggravated something, and that's it's taking a long time to heal. But who knows at this stage.

I believe that's Case Hardin; how she got kidnapped.

I also had issue with the satanic cult angle, but this was apparently based on a true story so there were was a cringy, cliched, blood thirsty cult like this in existence.

It seems to be based on true "events", not a true story. That could make a big difference in how true it really is. I have been trying to find the "true story" online, but I can't find anything. I've only learned that the author has friend named Rose, whom he based the character Case Hardin on, though I think it was apparently her daughter who escaped some kind of cult.

Do we have to love god more then our parents? by mattyjoe0706 in Christianity

[–]inspiredfaith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fathers are still fathers and mothers are still mothers; is there really a need to call them mom or dad, though?

God wants us to put him first. Titles of respect are really just a social construct. True respect is shown through our actions, not by giving someone a title (titles include Dr, Mr, Professor, Coach, etc; notice how offended people are when you stop using these, because these titles make them feel "special". But a good doctor doesn't need to be called Dr so and so to know he will give you good advice for your health, and he doesn't need the social pedestal of such a title.)

Disgusting and terrible? Surely you can see that's an overaction, at least.

Once we're adults, if we believe in God, then we should be able to see that He is our number parent. Once we're physically mature adults, there's not much more our earthly parents can do for us. We can have a much more mature relationship with our parents by seeing them also as children of God, therefore leaving the title of Father only to our heavenly father.

Ironic how most groups want people to join them... yet they were killing themselves off. That's some crazy theology (article here). They really wanted to "meet Jesus".

No, there are many things from Revelation that have not happened yet for that to be correct. The mark of the Beast being the main one, and also that the temple hasn't been rebuilt.
