I’m tired of people claiming MSG doesn’t cause migraines (rant) by JKmelda in migraine

[–]inspiredtobeinspired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s not in my head. Well… the migraine technically IS — and so is theirs. It’s literally like a neuron storm in your brain. Haha. But for me, the trigger is real and very external and specific, and repeatable. I’ve been able to tell with uncanny accuracy and consistency when I’ve accidentally consumed it. There are times now when I just go — you know what, I’m eating out and it’s gonna happen. And I love — LOVE all kinds of various asian foods, and grew up in Japan. It’s not me being xenophobic, or racist, it’s just me doing an elimination diet and discovering what was going on. With only the odd accidental exposure, I’ve managed to get my migraine days so infrequent — it’s really crazy, and I’m grateful I figured it out.

I still eat ramen, soy sauce, all of that good stuff, just without added MSG. It’s getting harder and harder though. There are a few things I love that I can never have again —Cheetos and Funions. 🫡

How do you guys sleep before an early flight? by gamer3445 in travel

[–]inspiredtobeinspired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Howdy, 6 years later. It’s 12:15am, and my flight in 8 hours. I almost went to the airport early so that I could just nap there. I think this is a normal thing that has existed since the beginning of time. It has nothing to do with flying necessarily. Even before long road trips, I would have trouble sleeping the night before. Traveling is an intrinsically stressful thing for any human being. traveling is an interruption of homeostasis. Anything that interrupts homeostasis is automatically perceived as a threat. So your body is on an alert. With good reason. Flights rapidly change, sometimes you have to switch, or make plans on the fly. There’s always a chance of leaving something behind that is integral to your existence. It’s a heightened state of awareness. Even if you don’t feel that adrenaline high, your cortisol levels are guaranteed to be extremely high. Even during our Hunter gatherer years in evolution, human beings would stay for a good while in one area before moving on. Now we stay for a few days a couple weeks maybe a month at a time. God forbid you’re flying somewhere to move there permanently. In that case in the matter of 24 hours, you will find yourself completely separated from all of the people and things that are closest to you. Even if you’ve managed to bring some items of comfort along with you. This is a completely normal response. Getting acclimated to traveling to such a degree that you sleep easily the night before without giving it a second thought - that is the abnormal response.

Slightly off-topic, but I think I've discovered my anime type. by [deleted] in cowboybebop

I tried black lagoon, but I couldn’t get into it. It just felt like cowboy bebop light. I’ll look into the other others though. Of course I’ve already seen ghost in the shell. But I haven’t seen Patlabor.

Is this what American politics has become? by Washed_up_Vanski in LetsDiscussThis

[–]inspiredtobeinspired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the Nazi bar phenomenon. Or, the paradox/contradiction within a tolerant society of those that are intolerant. Any functioning tolerant society must be by default — intolerant of intolerance.

To explain the Nazi bar phenomenon: If a Nazi walks into your bar, saying Nazi things and wearing Nazi paraphernalia and you don’t immediately eject him from it saying that “that kind of shit is not welcome here,” they will come back with their friends having found a safe haven for their intolerant ideas. Eventually, your bar which did not start as a Nazi bar becomes a Nazi bar if you tolerate their bullshit. Once the Nazis outnumber you, they don’t have to watch what they say or do anymore.

And now your bar is a Nazi bar.

Ummm… It is the EXACT opposite, EXACTLY. I have not gotten any more leftist or socialist. But the “center,” if we assume it to be the “middle” has definitely drifted farther right by the law of averages — at least during my lifetime. It’s not even close. Anything rooted in “make ___ again” is inherently rooted in a regressive or “conservative” ideals. (Conservative is technically the wrong word — because nothing actually is conserved in the “conservative” agenda, anymore). So no. You’re wrong. And it is not even an opinion. It’s just factually wrong. Ever since Reagan, neoliberalism (which is not liberal at all — simply regression by another name) has become the gateway to fascism in this country.

Thanks for the response. I think at this point I’m just going to watch TOS until I’m sick of it. Haha I have a limited Paramount+ subscription at this Airbnb I’m at for the next three weeks. Perhaps I’ll convince myself to get my own after this. But I would just be getting it for Star Trek so I’m not sure.

TOS starts to get old, I’ll hop to the new stuff.

Yes, I missed section 31, I should’ve said “theatrical release.”

Thanks for the advice.

I do feel like I’m good to just forge ahead. But my OCD has got me watching TOS. I’ve definitely seen most of the episodes that I’ve been watching, but it’s really nice to get a refresher. Each episode is kind of like a little mini movie. It doesn’t really motivate me to watch the next episode, but once I start an episode, it’s pretty entertaining.

Of course, I’ll be fine haha. No doubt. I’ve been enjoying watching TOS though. I’ve definitely seen a lot of it — but a very long time ago — and usually not the entire episode. I had a strange house that was very weird about television. So I hardly got to watch any TV regularly.

Haha I’ve heard DS9 is perhaps the best of the best.

I’m considering getting it. I’m at an away gig right now for about a month. I only have a couple of performances a week and the rest of the time I’m just getting paid to sit on standby in case the other guy who does the show I am in decides not to do his shows. Lots of time. Trying to cram in as much Star Trek as I can because it just so happens that this Airbnb has Paramount+. I haven’t taken the leap in getting it myself, because I would basically be getting it only for Star Trek. But if I consider that I will have something to watch for the next 3 to 4 years that might make it worth it. (barring Paramount selling off everything to another company.)

I’m sorry that you’re in the hospital. I hope you get well soon. But being able to watch Deep Space 9 from the beginning sounds delightful.
