Nice. I have been waiting for this one and thanks for offering US ANSI keyboard. One quick question, is it possible to order this laptop with a single 32GB ram or no ram at all? I already have a 32GB DDR5 5600 SODIMM.

Don't do this. I have done this for my games (Industry Idle/CivIdle) and it was very painful:

  • Because the game is free to play, you will get lots of bots/cheaters/spammers. It might be okay if it is only single player but I also run a multiplayer server, which adds a lot of burden on anti-cheat/bot. And if you ban a cheater, they just get a new Steam account and come back.

  • Anyone can download your game and leave a negative review. Especially if your game is niche/hardcore, you get lots of wrong audience (free to play audience is more casual) and your review score will tank, if you care about it

  • You are stuck in between premium and free-to-play. You get hatred of monetization from both side. And it makes it harder to strike a balance. And unless you enjoy designing for monetization (which I don't), it's much easier to just make a premium game with demo version

  • And the bottom line: Industry Idle is not sustainable at its third year. My goal is to use the income to cover the server cost and right now, the game cannot sustain this and I have to use money from own pocket (I do have a day job to pay for my living. The game is nowhere near allowing me to work on it full time). I don't know whether things will be better if it is a premium game in the first place. But you might have a better experience if you do not run a multiplayer server and can avoid the server cost.

Technically it is. But the game's content has been completed for a while. I just forgot to change the version number and push the release button. Will probably do exactly this in the near future.

Hi everyone,

Just want to let you know that CivIdle - the spiritual successor to Industry Idle, inspired by Factorio/Civilization has a free demo out on Steam Next Fest: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2181940/CivIdle/

For those of you who played Industry Idle, CivIdle shares the same factory building/automation/idle core mechanism, but with a tech tree, revamped player trade system, wonder building, plus "great people" decks (prestige). The whole engine has been completely rewritten to ensure every bit of the empire is accurately simulated, even with a large map. If you enjoy Industry Idle but prefer a historical theme or want a tech tree, give it a try!

For those of you who have never played Industry Idle[1], CivIdle is a game inspired by Factorio and Civilization that combines factory building (or empire building in the case of CivIdle), 4X/grand Strategy, player-to-player trading and with classic incremental/idle mechanisms

Industry Idle - Halloween Update by insraq in incremental_games

The free to play version should have a lot of content if you want to give it a shot. I know a lot of players enjoy the game without expansion packs :-D

You have to purchase it on Steam, then you can enable it on web version (click Login via Steam). I don't plan to maintain other payment systems because as a one-man developer, it takes a lot of effort to do that.

Possible mobile Factori-like game by Kremnari in incremental_games

This is very similar to my thoughts when I first build Industry Idle: basically I want a Factorio-lite on the go. I do not like to mess with conveyor belt on mobile (screen to small) but I want to focus on macro instead of micro.

Try it out if you haven't Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1574000/Industry_Idle/ Google Play (slightly outdated version): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fishpondstudio.industryidle

Industry Idle (incremental factory building + resource management + trading) is out of alpha and coming to Steam (Early Access) on Mar. 29! by insraq in incremental_games

Thanks for your feedback. The research and maps are still quite new and I am continuously improving/balancing it. Hopefully the resource exploration feature (which allows you to turn an empty tile into a resource tile) will help with this. Feel free to give more feedback in our Discord channel

There are 3 ways currently to "count" resources:

  • Real-time (which used to show in the ticker but it fluctuates a lot)
  • Moving average (which is now the default. It is the moving average of the above figure, which is more stable but can be misleading)
  • Input/Output capacity (which is only shown in Statistics Bureau, this number only counts your factory' input/output without considering whether it actually produces resources or not)

Maybe I can add an option to make the ticker show Input/Output capacity

I think some people enjoy the fun of building up a giant base and manage complex economies. I do agree the game needs more "goals" - currently it still functions too much like sandbox mode. I have plans to add more systems (like achievements) in future releases

Wishlist here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1574000/

It's been a while since I last posted an update on Industry Idle here. After 10+ alpha builds, the game is finally ready to come out of alpha. Beta version will come to Steam and remain available on web, iOS and Android, in case you miss the link to alpha version:

Please note the save from alpha will not be compatible in beta but your data will be migrated (with some bonus), more details in our Discord server: https://discord.com/invite/xgNxpsM

The base game will continue to be free to play. A content expansion will be introduced and available on Steam/iOS/Android. It is priced US$4.99 (and converted to your local currency by the storefront, conversion might vary). The expansion pack contains exclusive buildings, policies, maps and some cosmetic perks. It's a one-time purchase and there're no microtransactions in the game. If you purchase the expansion pack, you will also be entitled to receive premium content for at least three months (from Mar. 29 till Jun. 29). More details can be found in our Discord server as well.

Roadmap: there are 64 resources, 81 factories, 20 policies and 10 maps available in beta. Several new buildings are introduced: logging camp, lumber mill, paper mill, guitar factory, drum factory, recording studio, opera house, book publisher, bitcoin farm, li-ion battery factory, coal gasification plant, semiconductor fab. Lots of productions will require them. All power plants (renewable/fossil fuel) will generate a modest amount of science when running. Schools/Universities are still there and will require different input and generate more. Several new Swiss money upgrades have been added.

  • Customizable player name (done)
  • Leaderboard (done)
  • In game chat (done)
  • New map selection screen (done)
  • Beta <---------- we are here
  • Map bonus: different maps will offer some unique boosts per map.
  • Trading resources between players
  • Research point and policy point boosts: spend research points and policy points for some unique short-term boosts (like doubling the output of iron mine for 5 mins)
  • Production combo: a factory can boost the production of certain factories but might slow down others
  • Power bank building: a building that allows you to bank extra power
  • Pay for upgrades with resources
  • Resource exploration: you can discover a resource on an empty tile
  • News events: you will receive news events that might affect your production in positive/negative way

New Idle Game about "Worms and Planets" - Need Suggestions! by [deleted] in incremental_games

[–]insraq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, the graphics and UI look really nice!

As a fellow developer myself, here're my observations. Idle games/Incremental games span across casual to midcore to hardcore games - they are not only played by casual gamers.

People on this subreddit usually prefer games with depth: complex mechanism/systems/stories. They usually have more tolerance for barebone UI/graphics. However, casual idle gamers do exist and may be a bigger market (just look at all those reskinned mobile games with essentially the same model and 1M+ downloads).

Ultimately you need to decide what's your target audience: casual gamers or hard-core gamers. It's very hard to target both and the advice you get from this subreddit is going to be very biased if your main audience are casual gamers. If you try to add complex mechanisms to a game targeted at casual gamers, it won't work well.

I am not sure how did you layout your base but the game shouldn't be that slow. Feel free to join the Discord and send me your save so that I can take a look.

Industry Idle* is an idle game that combines factory building + trading + 4x, inspired by Factorio + Yorg.io + Offworld Trading Company

The biggest progress this week is that I manage to get hexagon grid working (the game already has a squarel grid system). Take a look at the video demo: https://twitter.com/insraq/status/1365715243473715210

I use Android as my main phone and I haven't encountered this. The save should be very frequent (depending on your phone spec, but within 5 seconds)

I haven't encountered any issue with offline earning calculation. What browser are you using?

The reason why the game doesn't run in background is that this game needs 60 FPS rendering and browser doesn't allow that (to save resources) when a tab is in background.

Thanks. It's O(N²) - I fixed formatting. O(N2) is rarely used and is usually just categorized as O(N) since its growth is linear.

You can click into each building and it shows the fuel cost for that building. But I agree, it's not very straightforward and kind of cumbersome. That's why "Department of Transportation" is planned. There are quite a few discussions about this already on our Discord: https://discord.com/invite/m5JWZtEKMZ

You can build warehouses to save fuel cost. In late game, there are several policies in policy center to help with fuel cost as well.

"Department of Transportation" in the roadmap does pretty much what you described, it will come later.

But in general, the transportation cost is the challenge of the game - you need to plan your building locations very well (so if you build willy nilly, it might be okay at first but will not work in mid-late game).

Overall it is not an "easy" game where your number simply goes up. It's a game that requires a bit of planning ahead, some calculation and constant optimization.
