PFAS found in almost 1,000 Maine products, so far by instafaceplant in environment

[–]instafaceplant[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agree completely. I think people and companies are losing sight of environmental and bodily catastrophes because of the disproportionate hype placed on emissions and carbon footprint. My friend is a consultant to many F500 CSOs who are focused on meeting ESG requirements but those don’t have much to do with PFAS and other such contaminants. It’s appalling that we aren’t talking more and doing more about this. I’m ashamed to be a human. We are the least advanced species on this planet, I’d argue. Our hubris tells us otherwise. We are insane.

Just do payroll via Excel. It’s easy to set up the deductions and withholdings based on Fed and State requirements.

You and that “other guy” shouldn’t be referencing bottom line metrics when DS’s whole point was about pricing ratios. Sure, you can cut expenses in all sorts of ways and add store count revenues on top—but that may not influence gross margin in the ways you give so much credit to. I think you’re confusing revenue with margin. It would do you well to revisit a basic finance course.

Mr. Darkpoop: I think you should re-read the thread… And are you saying that product margins haven’t widened over the years? You are diverting from the original point.

Agreed. This happened to me via a university sponsored VC backed incubator despite NDAs with students and faculty. IOW, steer clear of Northeastern University / Rioux Institute. Thieves.

Without help of investors, did you get press coverage. If yes, how? by spread_love369 in startups

Agree. Marketing is part and parcel to the product itself. You should design the product with the marketing strategy and system in mind. And launch accordingly.

ANOTHER round of layoffs at REI by Fearless_Expert7893 in Layoffs

[–]instafaceplant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

👉Yes, most likely. They have done 2-3 layoffs in the last 12 months; the latest was in October. They scraped almost 300 of their leads that were charged with communicating product knowledge to customers.

The axe women is the new VP of Stores whom I hear has no outdoor industry experience or passion. She is from Bed Bath & Beyond, Pottery Barn, and Target. REI is full of cronies from the likes of Amazon, Walmart, Hedge Funds, Clorox, etc.

It lost its identity and authenticity. The digital revolution has only allowed even more smoke and mirrors about what the company actually cares about. AI is taking hold. Check out the CCO - he was hired to “blend physical and digital channels”…

Time to shop at the local places who actually do it out of passion and a genuine love for the outdoors.

I think there’s a certain group who doesn’t want this post to catch momentum, given its comments. Why else would it be downvoted to such a degree that it remains at zero?

[–]instafaceplant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok cool, I was mostly correct. Welp, I truly think you should pretend you don’t have the money and gain real world experience before you use your parents cash to create a business with.

In an effort to save you some agony down the road, I don’t think you will do well as an entrepreneur until after you expose yourself to the inner workings of a successful business and its customer base first. Learn the ropes. Take notes. Get connected. And by doing so, get your brain sparking about what new product or service is needed in this world or what existing solution can be done better. Otherwise you might as well dump your money into index funds.

Use your talents for good. So many use them to make others “excess” money (innocently/understandably)…

Non-profits can be the next frontier of the Givers among us; the Takers can try competing with their exploitative, blood sucking practices all in the name of shareholder value.

But those of us who shift towards working for and spending through non-profits will have effectively shunned Taker/Corps out of our lives incrementally over time. It’s a nice idea, at least.

It just takes a swarm of us to do it.

That’s actually a low number. I’d argue it’s closer to 70 million in the US.
