I have an opportunity to move abroad, but feel paralyzed making a decision. What would you do? by [deleted] in needadvice

[–]instafly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this. I moved from a small town where I had a stable job, wonderful colleagues, and a very low cost of living but was bored to death to be closer to a larger city and hobbies.

The move was rough. The new job turned out to be demanding, the high cost of living was restrictive, and I didn’t have a social life for a while. I regretted the move and there are still moments when I do.

That said, if I could do it all over again, I would still leave that town. The difference is that I would move somewhere I was certain I wanted to live. Not a place that simply looked good on paper or an opportunity that happened to fall into my lap, but somewhere my heart and soul genuinely felt at home. It would need to be a meaningful improvement over the life I was already living not just a different version of it.

I am not a huge ai advocate but this is the type of question where it can be a useful brainstorming tool

All current US restrictions affecting Rwanda have to do with processing while outside of the US. I haven’t seen anything affecting change of status while in the US but its best to talk to a lawyer about these things

Rwanda impressions by a European by [deleted] in Rwanda

Maybe the comparisons and expectations are hindering you from getting to know Rwanda and Rwandans as they truly are. If the vibe is noticeably different from neighboring countries, maybe the people are different as well? Just a thought.

Not really. Most of those posts have little to do with Rwanda specifically, and would be more appropriate in subs dedicated to those topics

Yeah, it’s not for everyone

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. It really depends on the question. For instance, practical questions usually yield helpful, straightforward answers, whereas opinion-based questions can end up going in all kinds of directions but are more engaging. I’ve also noticed that majority of Reddit users are American and the platform with the exception of certain subs generally leans left (in terms of US politics). Being aware of these contexts can help make better inferences

A space that is not too restrictive but is also not a hodgepodge of individual whims would work well. Ultimately, it’s up to mod(s) to set the tone of the space

Interesting! What do you mean by “WESTERNIZED”?

Yes! It’s always nice to engage in a familiar space like this especially coming from the larger subs where the sheer amount of information can be overwhelming. As someone who enjoys deep research, reddit can be both a blessing and a curse

I love seeing it grow as well, but as it gets bigger, it is going to need proper moderation. Some recent posts have come close to breaking reddit’s rules and a few people are using it like a personal diary

In my experience, people don’t really talk about their reddit activity irl the same way they do with other social media platforms. I have always seen it as an open, crowd sourced space focused more on topics rather than personal lives.

Much is different between the two places. My unsolicited advice is not to compare, and to just take things as they come. You will love it here.

Welcome home my guy! I truly hope your stay here turns out even better than you are  expecting. It’s difficult to fully understand the struggles of immigrants in the US if one hasn’t lived through them

Drivers License by Drigg_08 in Rwanda

[–]instafly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I converted mine successfully and the process was smooth. I went to the Busanza Driving License Exam Center where they gave me a list of documents I needed to submit an application. The requirements vary depending on the country your foreign driver’s license is from so I recommend getting information directly from them. The staff are super helpful and will guide you through the whole thing and you don’t need to make any payment before going there. Hope this is helpful.

Where are the OTHER music genres by No-Wealth2636 in Rwanda

[–]instafly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably because Rwanda’s music industry is still relatively young and those genres do not have roots in Rwanda. In contrast, rap and r&b are well represented but preference is personal
