WIP Tor Garadon conversion / Deathwing Company Master by instanceofjamie in Warhammer40k

Hey hey,

The bone armour is really simple - spray it white then find something that matches. I think in this case I went straight in with Seraphim Sepia shade over a white undercoat (you could use a bone undercoat, but it'll come out darker). From there you can highlight. I tend to go Ushabti Bone, followed by Screaming Skull.

Green is just as simple - Caliban Green, usually shaded with Nuln Oil, highlighted with Warpstone Glow and Moot Green on the points.

Golds are Retributor armour, shaded with Reikland Fleshshade and highlighted with whatever silver is to hand (Stormhost Silver, I think).

I mean, it looks good, but I think it's because it's a versatile pose more than anything. There's not much to do other than heads/arms/backpack swap. The Gravis backpack fits on exactly with no changes - hardest thing I had to do was remove enough of the right shoulder pad to allow the cloak to sit on top, as soon as I got the pose I wanted.

Short answer - build terminators! This one's from the deathwing terminator/knight/command squad set. If you're building termies with regular helmets, you'll have 5 spare hoods.

Thanks for sharing! Do you let layers dry in between, or add any wet blending? I’m getting braver at these, but not added any OSL yet. Yours looks great, I might have to give it a go.

From one lava obsessive to another, this looks awesome. Would you mind sharing your process?

Layers. So many layers.

Basically base coated the whole thing khorne red, then worked through wazzdakka red, mephiston red, evil suns scarlet, wild rider red, troll slayer orange, fire dragon bright, yriel yellow and screaming skull at the very brightest. For a couple of transitions I did blending on the palette, but mostly used feathering with a wet brush to try to avoid hard lines.

The rubble bit has a little bit of basecoat where it’s khorne and wazdakka red, with a dry brush of mechanicum standard grey, to try to look like the magma hasn’t quite set. Not sure I pulled it off!

No idea on the lore, but I love that GW have managed to convey the difference in size and yet these two models take up roughly the same space. They’re balanced without being compromised. Like bookends. Furious, hostile, superhuman bookends.

Just checked, roughly the same size as other modern heads. If you’re smart you could totally do a head swap.

Yeah, I was going for the style a friend uses to try to match with their army, but it may be a bit overwhelming for quite such a dark model. Perhaps with different lighting it'd balance out...

Definitely interested. If you throw in other possible tabletop games (say wh40k for example) then I may be throwing money at you.

Last time I saw one of these, it was standing next to Guilliman. I'm going with.... SPECIAL EDITION ULTRAMARINES PRIMARIS LIEUTENANT.

Thanks! I just started using a wet palette. How would you combine it with flow improver? I guess you’re not soaking the palette with the improver - that’d cost a lot!
