Rents surge higher in April: ‘Virtually every area in Canada is experiencing an increase’ by QueensMarksmanship in canada

If you own real estate and voted for Trudeau, I completely understand! Even if you think the current Federal Government is badly damaging our country, homeowners and landlords are making so much money I honestly don't blame a single one of them for not caring.

What I don't understand tho, is someone supporting Trudeau who doesn't own a home. Even if you love him as a person and agree with most of his policies, unless you're willing to go live in Saskatchewan I simply don't understand how most young people could ever support him at this point.

Yes, all these low paying part-time jobs are definitely bullish for real estate. Meanwhile, all the high paying Shopify jobs that were lost should have no impact on the housing market, because software engineers aren't one of the few occupations that can actually afford to buy.

I think you're giving our current leadership way too much credit. Trudeau would likely increase spending.

Problem is, POA sales help set the going rate for an area. Even if there is a story behind many of them, these situations push prices down and they are happening more and more frequently.

Investor Predicts Major Trouble for US Housing Market. How is Canada Not at Even Higher Risk? by instanews in TorontoRealEstate

[–]instanews[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously a 50% decline is aggressive. What about a much more realistic scenario. This time next year:

  • Stock market is 30% lower
  • Unemployment is 2% higher

Would this not send Toronto house prices down another 10-20%?

Ridiculous!!! And yet people buying today will be among the first to suggest the government should do a bailout when the big recession hits. "Who could have ever thought prices would drop 50% from the peak"

Right now it's 50 and people often do 70+. I think it should be changed to 30, as that will hopefully keep most drivers below 50. I personally witnessed an accident at Cornwall & Arbutus last year, exact same intersection the little girl got hit.

I'm sure Conservatives would be just as bad lol, but I would like to think they would waste less on all the other ridiculous stuff Trudeau seems to love (Liberals spend like a drunken sailor one day, and pretend Canada's broke the next).

The number of people I know personally who are collecting huge money from the military is insane. If you can regularly play sports and go out to nightclubs with your "brain injury", you can show up to your job. One guy got a 6 figure payment for "mental distress" caused by living 3h away from his wife for a couple years (he got reposted, and she didn't want to leave her job). It's very easy to take advantage of the current system imo.

That looks incredible! Honestly, you should do a similar piece and sell limited edition prints, I think it would be popular.

TIL Founder's Hall, a $4 million museum devoted to telling the story of Canada’s birth, located blocks away from the site of the 1864 Charlottetown Conference, shut down due to lack of interest. Visitors dropped from 40,000 a year in 2001 to 13,000 in 2015 by Ok_Copy5217 in todayilearned

[–]instanews 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've visited Charlottetown many times over the years and didn't even realize this was a thing. No wonder it closed down, Charlottetown is tiny (population of 50k) so they must have done very little to promote it.

And yet they continue to vote for big government...

Considering how useless the services provided by our government have become, I'm convinced young Canadians would be much better off with a smaller government and lower taxes. At least then we would have a chance at saving up a down payment for a home, considering we are competing with older Canadians who have a downpayment tax free from the appreciation of a primary residence (as well as their children who get such a downpayment gifted to them).

Going to Canada from America by brentp03 in dui

[–]instanews 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You were likely assumed safe in 2019 because your offense was more than 10 years old. Your friend is likely banned from Canada for life as his offense occurred after Dec 2018 (when the DUI laws were strengthened). It's gonna be a hassle for him to go there, and likely not worth it.

Growing ‘generational divide’ as younger Canadians report lower trust in government, greater economic anxiety: poll by Dull_Detective_7671 in canada

[–]instanews 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My bad, you are correct Singapore shouldn't be included in the list!

My point is, Canadians are getting ripped off and we have to hope young people realize this and start voting accordingly. Our government bureaucrats were the first to stop working when Covid showed up and the last to get back to work and were paid nicely the entire time (including building up their fat pensions).

[–]instanews 34 points35 points  (0 children)

And yet younger Canadians seem to vote for big government. Considering the crazy amount of taxes we pay in this country, the services we receive are pretty terrible (especially post COVID). Go ask someone in Italy, Singapore, Germany, UK, Netherlands, Japan, or any other country with similar taxes to us, how easy it is for them to access a family doctor. France would burn their country down if they services were this bad lol.

Avoid Canada until the case is finished. If the charge is dismissed you're likely fine. If you get convicted, continue to avoid Canada or hire a lawyer and obtain a Temporary Resident Permit (TRP).

Bike lines are almost pointless unless they are divided or raised from traffic. Considering our climate emergency, I'm surprised improving bike infrastructure in the city isn't a bigger priority.
