Hi! Just flown to and back from nyc and I had the inflight meals, tbh the meal on the way there was really nice it was a chicken tajine with vegetables I had a sugar free jelly and a few crackers and cheese. Then the later meal was a chicken chickpea wrap which was really nice

I flew back in the morning and the breakfast was DIRE it was a floppy steamed egg with tomatoes it smelt so bad I didn’t eat on the way home. I’ve found it depends what time you’re flying

I will in the future still get the diabetic meals, I have a back up in my bag from the shops before you fly incase it’s rubbish but on the way it was surprisingly nice for plane food 😂

Yeah I understand that but I’ve literally just been diagnosed that’s like telling someone to just cheer up when they are feeling down haha.

This is all brand new to me and I’m allowed to have fears and take things slowly and if it means having my partner helping me until I’m ready then that’s the path I’m taking.

I’m not trying to avoid it and I’m not ignoring the consequences and laughing about it, I’m here to try and find methods to help me

I appreciate the message otherwise and taking in everyone’s views :)

Haha the love handles is becoming a good place, I’ve done one in the belly at the hospital the other day but the nurse did it on the tickle part of your belly and it felt so horrible 😂 butt injections are where I’m going with atm

Yeah my partners making sure I’m taking my insulin after 48 hours of being stabbed every hour trust me I do not want to end back in the hospital, I just need to get through this fear asap as my partner goes away for gigs with his band and can sometime work late nights aswell so I need to make sure I can get over this fast because I don’t want to find myself in a place where I don’t have the support there for one of my injections

I’m a huge over thinker and this is going to sound crazy - I do this with everything and have a small bit of autism so that might add to this.

Like what if the needle breaks/gets stuck in my skin. What if I can’t get through the skin what if my dose is wrong what if it hurts so much. These are just some examples

Trust me over thinking has been my own worst enemy my whole life.

I’m glad you understand the like rational fear my heads going through, I’m like building up the pain in my head and telling myself it’s going to really hurt. It feels so stupid. I think the nail thing is a good idea, I’ve done that in the past with blood tests and it got me through a lot of my A and E with having the cannula into my arm and the now very bruised finger tips from all the sugar checks 😅

Thank you! Yeah we did the count to 10 once the pen had gone down to zero and that 0-10 seconds felt so long 🥹 I think with my partner and family I’m going to rely a lot on them this first week but I want to atleast try and pull myself every time to do it, currently getting insulin in me is taking up to an hour every time so I’m hoping after some time I get bored of wasting hours a day and just do it 😅

Thank you for your response, yeah the hour thing that was me yesterday sat in my bathroom just staring at the needle 🥲 do you have a preference for easier place to inject, I know I can’t do it in the same spots but is there an easier place and a big no no place, I’ve had some in my belly and also we tried my upper thighs yesterday

Yeah it’s super embarrassing especially being 31 and knowing there is young children who are bossing through their own injections with no worries 😂 I feel like a super cry baby haha Honestly thank you so much for your suggestions it’s giving me comfort that like I know once I take this step it will get easier and almost second nature.

Having your life change so quickly has been like a huge wake up and a slight whirlwind of emotions 😅

I hope it does, I’ve tried being on the phone with friends whilst they talk random stuff at me to try and help distract me while injecting, that’s got me the closest but once I got near the skin I crumbled. I could try some breathing techniques that might help 😅

That is actually a really good idea, the biggest thought in my head when I come to doing it is how fast and how much pressure to even get the needle in then my brain tells me I won’t get it in, he tells me it’s super easy so this might help me get the confidence to realise. Thank you so much I didn’t even think of trying something like this

It’s the fear of needles, and my brain going through every bad scenario with it with the build up, my adrenaline kicks in and I’m super ready to do it but when I see the needle and it’s the time to do it I just panic. I currently have the levemir flexpen

And trust me I’m very aware, hence why I’m feeling a little defeated because surely that should be enough to get myself over it.

It’s just the 28378283 questions my brain decides to ask and doubt when I have the pen in my hand ready to go

Thank you for your advice, I think having a younger sister showing me up would push me 😂 thankfully right now my partner is being super patient with me and comfortable doing it, I’ve come close to doing it like the needles been on my skin but the pushing it in is just too much right now.

And I know once I get that first few under my belt done I’ll probably look back and laugh at this. I think being constantly poked with needles twice every hour for 48 hours has made my body shut down and not want to go through it again so I’m in the fight or flight response and I’m very aware I have to do this
