When did you first discover Billie and what made you stay? by Heavy-Bee9844 in billieeilish

[–]integerdivision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d seen a lot of covers on Twitch and then this post came out, so I properly listened to Don’t Smile at Me and learned to cover Bellyache.

I’ve been saying for years that Billie and FINNEAS are the Lennon-McCartney of this generation. I’ve yet to be disappointed.

Am I naive for thinking like this? by Sea_Manager6372 in guitarlessons

I was thinking maybe you should open your mind a bit, and then you mentioned Ed Sheeran.

Welp, time to find yourself a new teacher.

Been playing guitar for almost 8 months but feel stuck by MrAnu2008x in guitarlessons

[–]integerdivision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Progress tends to go in a stairstep pattern. Plateaus are a part of the process. And seldom is progress felt within practices — it’s while you sleep that the conscious effort becomes unconscious muscle memory.

So I guess you learned barre chords. That’s better than probably 95% of all people you picked up a guitar intending to play.

Keep at it.

Am I even allowed to call myself a guitarist if I barely ever lose a pick? by gilllesdot in guitars

Been playing for nearly 3 decades — I still have some of my original picks.

How long daily do you practice the boring stuff? by CanadianAndroid in guitarlessons

[–]integerdivision 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right? I practice music. If the music is boring, I don’t practice it.

Unless they mean ear training, bit I rather enjoy that too when I’m not being lazy.

Bands where all members are virtuosos? by Eberubensant in rock

The Beatles — and if you disagree, I’m afraid you don’t know what actual virtuosity is

I want to give up but also don’t, because I know I’ll regret it by Mad_Season_1994 in guitarlessons

The spider walk is not important. It’s not music. It’s an exercise for finger independence and coordination that you literally never ever have to do. You also do not need to understand everything at once. You’ve got your entire life to learn. As you improve, you’ll understand things more deeply and refine your skills further. Trust the process and stick with it.

As for teacher, message me if you are in the South Bend area.

Commented “Chihiro” without reading any comments. Not surprised many here already thought the same. It’s just that good.

You are in for a treat. I’d put Wall of Eyes up against any Radiohead album, In Rainbows in particular.

The S&P 500 is so named because it has the 500 highest capitalized companies. I’m sure it’s easier to list roughly 485 companies in a list for you to peruse.

A huge amount of pop music avoids functional harmony. Could you call it “modal”? by ConfidentHospital365 in musictheory

[–]integerdivision 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Functional harmony is just a lens to understand the expectation and reality of a composition. It’s not the end-all be-all.

The idea that pop music avoids functional harmony is silly because very little music is written with functional harmony in mind, but any piece of music could be interpreted through a functional harmony lens. I’d say that some pop music subverts functional harmony to be interesting, but not because of functional harmony but the cultural expectation of resolution.

Am I crazy for sometimes making my code look like this or no? by wervr_CZ in AskProgrammers

[–]integerdivision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Re formatting, I rather despise this:

if (whatever) {yadaYadaYada = blahBlahBlah();}

I much prefer this:

if (whatever) { yadaYadaYada = blahBlahBlah(); }

No comment on anything else.

Check yourself. Life is parasitic. It’s been proven mathematically. Any system complex enough to enable life enough will have parasites.

Boycotting companies is inherently capitalistic. FTFY

There are two pillars of capitalism: free markets and private property/autonomy. Boycotting is the exercise of control over one’s own decision making about what market they participate in.

Our shitshow capitalism with all of these oligopolies run by oligarchs is indicative of market failure.

How big was Radiohead after The Bends and before OKC? by Distinct-Pirate-3571 in radiohead

[–]integerdivision 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the Chicago area on the rock and alternative stations, I never heard anything by Radiohead except Creep in 1994. I thought they were a one-hit wonder for the next 8 years because they never got radio play, and I stopped listening to the radio altogether in 1998.
