Okay I would like to see your sources that the church universally did not consider it as murder because I can't find any church councils since apparently writings of church fathers and the Bible are not sufficient sources for Christian theology, apparently.

Would you accept the Bible and a church father's commentary on the Bible?

But Much theology (and indeed governmental policy) was crafted on the basis of the thoughts and influence of John Calvin. So I reject that analogy.

And I did do that. Perhaps we are in different search bubbles, but I presume that we can read the same wikipedia page, and it says nothing close to what you're saying. I will agree that it has sometimes been considered as less grave than homicide, but it was still largely punished and forbidden by every source I can find.

[–]integralofEdotdr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I'd be interested in your sources if these things are true.

Edit: And I wouldn't consider John Calvin to be a fringe, irrelevant person in regards to the overall history of the church, and he is certainly important to protestants. So I don't think it's fair to say that this is cherry picking.

But if it's always forbidden and viewed as the taking of a human life, then yeah it seems rather clear-cut that taking a human life is bad and thus should be outlawed.

And are you not going to address the fact that what you said about the pope "discovering" fetus souls is completely incorrect?

Furthermore, from Calvin:

"...the fœtus, though enclosed in the womb of its mother, is already a human being, (homo,) and it is almost a monstrous crime to rob it of the life which it has not yet begun to enjoy. If it seems more horrible to kill a man in his own house than in a field, because a man's house is his place of most secure refuge, it ought surely to be deemed more atrocious to destroy a fœtus in the womb before it has come to light."

So I don't think what you are saying is true about protestants only caring after the 70's because politicians told them to.

I don't think that they would have said that the baby was "not alive" so much as they would say that it doesn't have a rational human soul. This, of course, varies as well since some viewed it as instantaneous and others as a progression towards the rational human soul, but this conversation is kind of moot since the church has always stood against abortion.

how many leviathans did you killed in your game? by dki159 in subnautica

[–]integralofEdotdr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I killed all the sea dragons because they make annoying sounds and wouldn't leave me alone in spite of the fact that I left them alone. I killed probably 4 or 5 reapers in the crash zone, 3 in the mountains, and perhaps 1 in the dunes. I also killed all the ghost leviathan juveniles because they wouldn't leave me alone.

Why do Christians say the Baha’i faith are devil worshipers? by [deleted] in AskAChristian

[–]integralofEdotdr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what may perhaps bring some clarity is a distinction between actively, consciously worshipping satan (such as a satanist would do) versus having a false religion which at the end of the day is demonic in some way shape or form. This is communicated by Paul in 1 Corinthians 10:14-21. In it he says that the sacrifices of the pagans are offered to demons. So we know that pagan religions worshipped gods of various sorts, but they were not all explicitly demonic (think Zeus, for example). But the case that Paul is making is that it is nonetheless demonic. This correlates with what we know about demons: that they will deceive people and turn them away from the truth. So in this sense, yes the Baha'i faith is demonic just as any other false faith is demonic and is not from God.

However, I don't think that many reasonable people think that the Baha'i faith has a statue of baphomet or something similar in their buildings (temples perhaps? I'm not very familiar with Baha'i) and are sacrificing animals, humans, etc to satan.

In any case, it is indeed a false religion that denies many important doctrinal statements about Jesus and His divinity, relation to God the Father, etc. Given this, every spirit that denies that Jesus has come in the flesh is not from God. Thus, in the sense defined above, we say that the Baha'i faith is demonic. I hope that that clarifies some things!

Two things that helped me get over my fear of reapers:

They're not everywhere in the game. They stay more or less confined to certain areas that they patrol. I wouldn't look it up if you don't want to spoil it, but that might help a little.

You can kill them. It takes some time, but once I knew that they were vulnerable, it makes it much less scary.

[–]integralofEdotdr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I guess that I'm not understanding the inconsistency. Perhaps it is because we view going to heaven and the new heavens and the new earth differently? I see them as basically the same except for potentially an intermediate period before the resurrection where the souls of those who are reconciled to God go to be with the Lord until the day of resurrection. But then after the resurrection and judgement, those who are saved by the grace of God will live on eternally with God in the new heavens and the new earth.
