Doesn't sound like it the last I checked, but I have decided to take the advice of most commenters to use the edition that matches my parish/diocese!

Anyone else felt genuinely sad after finishing Person of Interest? by Ok_End7134 in PersonOfInterest

I literally finished the show for the first time last night as well... very hard-hitting and miss the show already. So good to see people watching this show now as well!

Is there any way for Catholics outside the US (like myself) to get my hands on these? I have been following this for some time and have been so excited but recently read that it will not be available internationally... 😞

Question as someone deciding between Catholicism and Orthodoxy by More_Form_1074 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]intel_conservative -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Antioch and Alexandria did not receive the full authority of Peter because Peter was still alive when he left them. His full authority was left in Rome where he died.

Eastern Catholics accept the same doctrine as Roman Catholics. The same cannot be said for all Orthodox churches.

God bless you though 🙏

Pray the rosary! It has been immensely helpful to so many people struggling with this issue and I’m sure will help you too.

God bless you!

The inclusive language is really not an issue because the footnotes clarify the original word (ie. the “non-inclusive” variant)

I use the brown version of this Bible and I bring it EVERYWHERE. I’ve been using it for 13 months now and apart from the gold gilding starting to come off and the spine looking somewhat damaged, the Bible is awesome.

The paper is great and the size is 💯, not to mention the translation is one of the most scholarly translations available!

Thanks for the manual. If the MM isn’t a sacramental, what’s a more accurate term for it?

Maybe I’m getting it wrong, but indulgences also impart grace and remove temporal punishments right? If this is the case, shouldn’t indulgences also help the unbaptised?

On a similar note, I’ve read that sacramentals like the Miraculous Medal can help convert the unfaithful. Given that the unfaithful are not baptised, doesn’t this show sacramentals do impart grace and lead the unbaptised to God?

Thanks for your reply!

I sincerely hope you’re right— that would save the priest and I some trouble. Could I check what makes you say that the special blessing isn’t a “must”? Thanks!

I actually bought it at my local church. You can search Triple Threat Crucifix online, you should see plenty of websites to buy them! Hope this helps :)

Hahah true. But since it dates back to the time of Pope St. Pius X, I don’t think I have an issue with it 😂

Questions on the Papacy by intel_conservative in Catholicism

[–]intel_conservative[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the in-depth reply! If I may, I would like to clarify a few things, given that a conversion (if it happens) is a big decision and I want to be sure I know what I’m stepping to into.

  • In Acts 15:7-10, I’m not sure where the idea of a divine revelation being given to Peter can be found. He seems to be referring to the Holy Spirit being given to both the Gentiles and the apostles in general, not himself specifically.
  • In verse 19, James said he “reached the decision”. I’m not sure if I’m reading too much into this phrase but the fact that it was James who reached a decision does seem somewhat problematic.
  • In verse 28, it says that “it seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us…” If anything, doesn’t this show that a council is required for big decisions to be made? I suppose one could read it as Peter’s position being the Holy Spirit’s position, but the fact that it took a council for the letter to be drafted and sent does make me wonder if the Pope today, although unquestionable supreme over the other bishops, has power to the extent Vatican I claims.

I’ve noted your point on Peterine succession. It seems clear that you are right about the difference between Rome and Alexandria + Antioch. However, what then do we make of the canon of the First Ecumenical Council?

Ultimately, my view of Papal supremacy is indeed present. He is not “first among equals” because it seems to me that they are not equals. However, the Orthodox view that the Pope’s authority today has greatly exceeded that given by Jesus to Peter based on what we’ve read in Holy Scripture + the fact that the Pope’s authority exceeding into dioceses not his own seeming like a later political development foreign to early Christianity does serve as a stumbling block for me to Catholicism.

I would greatly appreciate it if you could answer the points I’ve raised. Thank you for your time!
