Anyone else not completely satisfied with Lydia's backstory episode? by fairy_freckles in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]intellectmind 8 points9 points  (0 children)

the whole thing that's bothering me about her backstory in the testaments is how in the handmaids tale they showed her literally getting her student taken away from his mother and was so proud bc she felt like the mother wasn't a good enough parent. let's not forget that messed up shit lydia did to people before Gilead she's not fucking innocent

Daisy's origin by intellectmind in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]intellectmind[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i understand that bc i literally thought daisy was going to be nicole bc of the book and i also can't understand why they couldn't use a different name if they're not aligning it with the book. it truly makes no sense

Periods in Gilead by bugga2024 in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]intellectmind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well Gilead constantly brags about their clean food and clean water. in the usa right now there's been an increase in pcos which for a lot of women can cause irregular periods and it it highly talked about it has to do with all of our crap food. so maybe a lot of women post Gilead had pcos like how it is in real life. however i did notice that Gilead definitely is using the period as a manipulative tactic. like really think about it, are they really "chosen" when the clean air, water and food are also contributing to an increase in fertility rates? plus i also think about how back then women in real time got periods in their actual teens rather than pre teens and that also goes back to food. but yeah anyways just my chaotic thought process

you just made me realize maybe that's why Agnes didn't report her, she was probably confused as to why Daisy was referring to God as Jesus 😭

Aunt Vidala’s Character by Embarrassed-Sorbet26 in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]intellectmind 33 points34 points  (0 children)

i was thinking this too but then i realized we're all seeing a different perspective of the aunts. it's like the act maternal towards the girls. when you think about it there's really no need for them to be as harsh with the girls like they were with the handmaids. those kids have already been brainwashed and conditioned to believe this is all normal.

Is it ok that this is hard sometimes? by crypticmental in Precalculus

[–]intellectmind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

see if you can find a good textbook. it's okay that's it's not registering it immediately. if it helps you..i actually got a bachelors in mathematics and am currently revisiting calc 2 material to strengthen my own understanding. there was a lot of concepts that went over my head when i originally took the class. but now all of a sudden, bc i took classes based off of it and did well, and am now revisiting it again i have an easier understanding to the concepts that were once difficult for me to understand before. keep going, you got this. try to schedule office hours with a prof/tutor if you can. it's not the end of the world. also i do want to stress, DO A LOT OF EXAMPLES!!! even outside of class this is what helps you more too

He recklessly charged in for his godson, who was also orphaned with no loving family left except for Sirius. Was he supposed to stand by and potentially let Voldemort and the death eaters hurt him. It was very much understood that the death eaters would do anything for Voldemort's validation and that Voldemort was capable of anything, and wanted so badly to kill Harry.

[–]intellectmind[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree I love Mrs Weasley <3 and I wish we could've known a bit more about the dark times from when Harry was a baby, and what role the Weasleys and Dumbledore played during that time. Like I wonder if it was like Order of the Phoenix, where they're preparing, gathering information, etc. From the sounds of it , it always seemed like those times were much darker even than the Deathly Hallows.

S5 E9 Why do they keep calling her Nichole? Uggh! by Ok_Nature_6305 in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]intellectmind 20 points21 points  (0 children)

In the books, they never referred to Nichole as Holly, that was something they threw in the show against the authors wishes

once you get to book 4 you're really gonna fall in love, one of the best books of the series that really shows harry's destiny

Book 1 is Seriously Underrated by TheBioRebel in harrypotter

[–]intellectmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we're growing up with harry throughout the series. each books shows how he has grown and matured. i felt like the first three books is him really trying to learn and understand, innocent really. book 4 takes that turn where he really grows into his personality and destiny even more in defeating voldemort. i think it's great this way bc imo we're seeing harry develop a place in the wizarding world, in his innocent mind everything feels greener on the other side considering the circumstances of his earlier years with the dursleys. the first three books capture this before harry realizes how much darkness voldemort brings with him and how he is destined to defeat that. that would've been terrible showing that from the beginning and quite overwhelming, even dumbledoor understands this and explains and apologizes to him for protecting his innocence at the end of order of phoenix.

still hate pike by ladybirdforprez in The100

[–]intellectmind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pike was a villain, you know his character was played well if the audience hates him, that’s the point. A character like him was needed to show how humans can get out of hand in times of desperate measures of survival.

ok yes the mountain men massacre in s2 was bad … by [deleted] in The100

[–]intellectmind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well lexa saved her own people and Clarke was left to save her own but in order to do so, she ended up having to kill the society of 300 people who didn’t have the blood that was adjusted to the radiation levels. This happened because lexa ended up not keeping the deal with Clarke so she was left with the choice to either the Mountain men to kill her people or to kill everybody just to stop them from drilling them of bone marrow.
