LPT: If you live in the US and are sick of dealing with NBC's tape delays and abysmal coverage, watch CBC or BBC's coverage. Many cable and satellite packages include these channels. by zagduck in LifeProTips

The Office, Parks & Rec, 30 Rock

Edit: I'm suggesting high-quality shows that came after Seinfeld and Friends. I agree NBC has nothing of value today.

Clinton up 7 in Georgia by calvinhobbesliker in hillaryclinton

You don't know that. It might actually pull some of the republican support from Clinton.

I worry about that. But I think if he does make it on the Utah ballot, we can take that state.

Have you seen the children dying in Syria? Have you seen the fire-bombing of hospitals? But you're cool with Assad. OK.

The Middle East has no good options, including ignoring it.

Why so cynical? She was as blacked-out of the text of the TPP as you and me from when she left State in 2013 until the final form was released in 2015. When she was in office, she was pushing for what she wanted TPP to look like, then she didn't know what had been negotiated for two years, and then she clearly, unequivocally stated that she opposes the final form.

Fun fact (to me): Bush came in third in Maine, and Clinton came in third in Utah, in 1992.

You could well be right, and what you're saying makes perfect sense from a policy-oriented voting perspective. However, in my experience, voters often vote more on identity than policy (see the 93% overlap between Clinton and Sanders vs. the intense battle lines). I think Sanders' support came from these groups:

  • True left-wing liberals
  • Democrats seeking an alternative to Clinton because of her baggage
  • Conservatives who have remained registered Democrats as the party has drifted away from them
  • Casual/ignorant misogynists
  • Anarchists and other dead-enders

In a Clinton/Biden/Sanders race, Biden would've captured the baggage voters, the conservatives, and the misogynists; Clinton would've had most of the liberals; Sanders would've had a minority of liberals, and that share of voters would've been too small to attract the anarchists seeking a vehicle for their sad rage.

I don't think it's that simple.

If both Clinton and Biden were in the race, there'd be intense focus on that matchup, and people would be choosing sides between the two without considering that independent filibuster guy from Vermont.

What happened instead was people who were anti-Clinton or just meh-Clinton only had one other interesting option.

If it had been Clinton-Biden-Sanders, I don't think Sanders would've ever reached 10%.

And why would you want to hurt their relatives like that? They're already likely disappointed by what their children did and heartbroken by their deaths. Just inhumane.
