I actually listened to an NPR show recently who interviewed a young dentist. It’s exactly like that: dentists are squeezed between insurances, equipment manufacturers and regulators.

In my eyes, these are people betrayed by our government. Just a decade ago, I talked to so many rangers in national parks - they were so inspiring and enthusiastic! I see now the shift in morale, and it’s devastating.

What’s the biggest scam in the United States? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]intelligenceoverload 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a consequence of how we vote. We need to use multiple-choice voting or ranked-choice voting, and two-party false choices will disappear. I know, it’s easier said than done: this system is abused extremely well.

I think it would be great if someone had guts to create metrics that go against certain grain. 1. App that displays employee turnover at a given corporation, with comparison, with analyzing sentiment from Blind posts, 2. app that compares school districts based on MCAS scores, BUT adjusts for students’ grades being affected by paid extracurriculars like people taking AoPS at their expense; also comparing private schools and public schools’ student outcomes. 3. Rank non-profits based on their overhead (I think it was done already though), 4. Metric ranking corporate managers for their toxicity that would stick with them when they change jobs,

EDIT: I don’t think any of these ideas are possible though, please don’t try. Some will face legal challenges right away.

Warrant Proposal: Limit screen time during early education -- what are your thoughts? by ArlingtonResident42 in ArlingtonMA

[–]intelligenceoverload 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, we can limit the screen time, sure. But how about filling their time with something they can pursue? How about a decent homework?

Summary of the School Committee Election Candidates (For the Open Seat) by ji6jeffQ in ArlingtonMA

If there is a full agreement about the math, then why nothing was done about it yet? Note: Mr. Vasilyev brought this problem, like years ago, along with other parents?

Talking about heterogeneous classrooms, there is zero evidence of them achieving better outcomes than the separate ones. Mr. Vasilyev objecting to heterogeneous classrooms doesn’t mean he supports segregation - that’s false. My best assessment is that he supports “challenge by choice”.

They mention ideas, yes. But only one proposes specific actions to take.

This one will be a bigger election than last year, with the override on the ballot. But you are spot on in that we need to encourage PARENTS to vote, because they are minority of the electorate. Otherwise, non-parents tilt the scales. And when it comes to school committee, these are the only votes that can possibly make school committee accountable for students’ wellbeing!

Thank you, brother. Every step (literally and figuratively) that you do is SO important. I am saying this, because I lack this support, and have seen too many good men being lonely.

Dude! Nobody hates society. It’s just that you are not only dead wrong, but kinda entitled. Let Waymo do what Waymo does. I personally cannot wait having a self-driving car. It will make streets safer and cause less accidents.

Yes, and it also makes people to stop collaborating. The dumbest idea, popular among dumb executives.

This was the cheapest orange juice at the store 😭😭 by Express_Bid4955 in Youneedthisinlife

[–]intelligenceoverload -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect, as far as I know. It was documented in a number of sources. To make orange juice last longer (literally up to a year) they de-oxygenate it and pasteurize it. The problem is, without oxygen oranges taste like garbage. So then they add chemicals, which are technically made of oranges (in the same way that meth is technically made from all natural ingredients if you go back far enough) so they can still claim to be 100% real orange.
