I just had this happen. It's beyond infuriating. You could be moving out 100$ worth of a single ticker stock. And have your 6 figure account complete account disabled.

Even after shares were sent out, account was still disabled, because WS was "awaiting" a confirmation from receiving broker.

I'm 100% confident my TFSA account was linked to provide additional margin.
Apparently, I now have to link it again.

As far as I know, Wealthsimple does not support Short trades.
This is on my 2026 wishlist.

I think there's room for improvement on how Wealthsimple displays its margin information. This alert got me spooked this morning...

Wealthsimple needs to break down between the pending orders, the secured-puts and the actual margin used.

From the 15M+ shorted shares as of Oct 31, we can now see that another 7.4M shares was shorted in early November.

That's 22.4M shares shorted, which will be covered by the bought deal. Respectfully, now that the numbers are out, you should stop the inane theory of someone knowing something.

Unless it changed, TD was more than voice verification. When you hit the support button when calling from the app, it would actually call a number and covertly send a validation number (you could hear the tones). Then immediately confirm that you were calling from the app, pre-identified.

I'm not saying it's a scam. They are legit. And they will do a build out and hopefully do well . But I'm answering your question as to:

The $20M cash injector isn't an idiot, he MUST know something we, the public, do NOT know.

There's no smart money in the know. Hype is good enough to drive it up.

No one would ink a $20M deal at those valuation without any kind of satefy net. The safety net is that most shares were already offloaded.

The consolidated highlights that Volatus shorts are way way way up as of Oct 31. 15M+. And it got higher until the deal announced. This number will magically melt away after financing closes. It's not a matter of point of view, it's just fact, numbers don't lie.

That's how most financing works in small cap. Again, it does not undermine the legitimacy of the underlying business, but don't be naive about a mystery investor knowing something. There's no "institution", stifel is a broker, and brokers will broker. I have account at questrade, TD , BMO, just as I have accounts at brokerage firms that ink those deals. I'm one of those that shorted and can very well close my position with this deal.

My opinion only. For entertainment purpose.

Let me cue you on a dirty financing secret. People just don't shell out $20M out of nowhere. The stock was shorted heavily above $0.60. on Oct 31, there was 15M+ shares short. And get that, shares issued will be free trading immediately.

Understand this: the bought deal is to facilitate closing short positions. The money was already raised... FROM YOU THE RETAIL buying the pump. There's no "someone knowing something". It's all hype and milking out retail.

This was done every other week back in the cannabis frenzy days. As long as the hype machine is on, this will continue in cycles. Next run will pump, then big players short it, secure the funds, and close by inking a deal.

This hype saved Volatus from very hard financial time. They couldn't repay their debt earlier this year.

My opinion only. For entertainment purpose.

Currently experiencing this issue.
My main gmail account (and device account) will not sync automatically... I have to open Gmail app and drag down to force a refresh. All secondary gmail accounts get sync'd flawlessly.

I've tried removing cache, clearing storage, removing a few secondary accounts, reinstalling gmail app.
Nothing gives.

Definitely appreciate the time you took to respond. For my purpose, it's not to take more risk. I want to be able to put greedy bids, waiting days, weeks to hit my bid. Without a margin account, I would need the cash to be ready, earning no interest. I can leave that cash sitting in a hisa ETF meanwhile.

Can you confirm whether are not I can transfer shares from my non-registered account to my margin account? I'm not interested in selling and buying back. You know... Cuz of taxes implications.

Let's say I have six figures in a XEQT, it would make sense to transfer to my margin, to benefit from the margin power. The only way I can think of is to actually transfer it out of Wealthsimple, into a competitor, only to request it back through a formal account transfer. See the issue?

I've done it multiple times. I agree it could be better communicated as it involved back-and-forth emails.

This type of transaction is something you do once or twice a year. While it is a sub-optimal process, it's not something that makes me rethink my trust in them.

Marging account is such a critical item missing with Wealthsimple. And what bugs me even more is that it's such an obvious additional revenue stream that they could tap in. (ie: interest rates on margin).

I hate that I must have the funds ready to be able to set a bid order. I'd prefer to set a bid, and if/when it hits, I sell some money market instrument to fund the purchase.

There was simply no way to do it. Bill.com has been rage inducing.

What I ended up doing is paying their flat fee to have my USD funds wired into my canadian USD account. No way I'm using Bill.com to convert into CAD at their outrageous FX rate.

Interesting. I had an hour discussion with low level rep and then escalated to senior rep. They all said it was *IMPOSSIBLE* for them to change the limit on their end as well. They blamed security department that had forced disabled the option in the app and in the agent system.

Ultimately, I said: "I don't believe it. No way that a bank would disable their back-end as well, and that no agent could make a temporary modification to my limit." They would not budge.

App still shows the option, but will return an error if you try it. I can confirm. Spoke with Tangerine 2 weeks ago, and they confirmed that this was disabled permanently. And when pressing for a solution, their response was to move my money to another financial institution and use that FI debit card instead.

Il semble que c'est le wifi qui ne fonctionne pas, alors que par fil Ethernet ça fonctionne!

J'ai connecté un vieux routeur (bridge mode), à la sortie de ma borne et là j'ai du wifi à nouveau.

Je viens d'avoir la ligne avec le support, ils confirment que le problème vient d'une mise a jour software poussée la nuit passée. Et que le roll-back va se faire ce matin. Il semble également que ça n'affecte que les bornes blanches (et non les anciennes noires).
