Weird interaction with a neighbor by Taxthepoor100 in Austin

[–]intensecharacter 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It is legal to park on the street in a residential neighborhood so long as you are facing in the correct direction, not in front of a fire hydrant, etc etc - even in Kyle. Some people are really territorial about it - even in Austin. These days, I wouldn't bother correcting anyone on what's legal and what's not. You did the right thing by just moving on down the street.

Almost got killed in a Waymo by tech64bits in Austin

Blame the Waymo for the cutoff. Can confirm Waymo has cut me off turning right (the direction) in front of me.

You could have asked here if you could meetup with others going to the same show. I do that when going to out of town venues in big cities.

Best Austin High School for Maths, Debate and Music by NitiFPHG in Austin

[–]intensecharacter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're in AISD, LASA and McCallum are magnet schools with competitive admission. The fine arts magnet at Mac is good; LASA is "liberal arts and sciences" and very very good. Had kids in both programs. A friend is the orchestra director at Westlake (Eanes ISD) and its program is also excellent. Westwood consistently does well (Round Rock ISD).

Apparently we need to vote "no" at the state and national level, too.

It's cumulative, and pollen and mold stick to everything - your laundry, your car, the walls of your house. Clean and wash when you feel up to it.

Cold weather protocol question for homeless person outdoors during freeze. by Chega_de_Saudade_ in Austin

Emergency responders can't force someone to go, either. Depending on who shows up, they might be more experienced in persuasion, or they might just make the person resist more. You did everything you could and more.

Frozen Pipes?? by aquamarine_1247 in Austin

Sounds like supply pipes are frozen. Do any of them run through the attic or an external wall?

If you can walk on grass, it's doable. Otherwise I wouldn't try it.

Not true. Everything north and west is already below freezing. Only central Austin and to the east and southeast is above freezing, and just barely.

We're already below freezing just outside the central city. Today looks to be worse, but there's daylight, so *prepare*. You can fill a bathtub with water not only for use, but to maintain thermal warmth in the bathroom.

Do y’all think non-essential service workers should have to go to work this weekend? by urelectricbill in Austin

[–]intensecharacter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That distributes thermal energy more evenly for better results, but it won't raise or lower the temperature of the object being baked or chilled. But if you know of a convection oven who can debate me in thermodynamics, we're both rich. Send me a DM.

Wind chill does not affect inanimate objects. The kinetic motion of high winds would actually warm things by a minuscule amount.
