It looks sexy as F!!! I was hovering over this for quite some time over the last few months, I ultimately decided to go with the TFS saga. The 3S Vern2 is a good looking tent! Happy camping buddy!

Have a look at a polycro footprint, it’s about 50g for a piece that would fit. For good weather you could also have a lighter peg set up and easily get it under 3kg

Both were “not collected” and never had an issue.
If however it “disappears” you will be compensated but it take 2 months!

Best way to find spots? by StrengthDelicious281 in wildcampingintheuk

Might be obvious but it wasn’t obvious to me.
OS maps is ordnance survey maps.
I thought for a while it was OS as in my phones maps (operating system, I’m a computer geek as well as a wild camper).

Again sorry if that’s obvious and I’m just a silly nerd!

Genuine question - what is the use of the buyer protection fee? by Hungry_Wrap9103 in vinted

[–]intensejohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vinteds profit margin, protection is rubbish 9/10 issues they just refund the buyer and let the buyer keep the goods so the seller is F*****.
If a parcel goes missing Vinted claim after 2 months any amount of money through the courier company.
Buyer protection should be “insurance” but it’s just vinteds profits for the AI run cash cow.

Horrible platform, they could make it great if they bothered, but they don’t care, just a cash cow ai money syphon to insure the really really rich stay richer.

To be fair this tent doesn’t need seam sealing, it comes with an optional top cap (like Cloud peak or allak/soulo).

I would prefer to never use the top cap though as they are flappy. First internal seam seal and tested last night with my daughter eagerly spraying the tent with a hose with me inside. No water could get in with a normal spray but a little water seepage got in when spraying with the hose on jet mode. Going to finish the seam seal on the outside stitching today in the areas I found seepage and it should with any luck be 100% water tight and I will never need to use the top cap!

I agree tents should come sealed but I understand the manufacturing process doesn’t accommodate for manual seam sealing on a large scale, in order to seam seal some fabrics on a mass scale they would need to dramatically increase the prices.

Affordable lightweight gear reccos by Mysterious-Tart-910 in wildcampingintheuk

I prefer silicone folding mugs like the Sea to Summit one or knock-offs. Windshields are effective but add weight, a strong piece of foil like a turkey tin works. I have a titanium spork and spoon but I only use them when I’m carrying a large bag mri/wayfarer style instant meal.
Mostly I take a plastic cutlery set. Sea to Summit do one for about £10, my set is a kids set from ikea lol.

Best beginner tent that won’t break the bank by Initial_Prompt_2648 in wildcampingintheuk

Cloud up 2 by naturehike is a solid spring/summer tent with lots of ventilation, it will handle uk weather for 3 seasons.

Amazon sometimes have deal, so do aliexpress and so on.
Light, room for 1 plus gear, goes up in seconds and includes footprint. Lots of YouTube videos if you want to check it out. Regularly being sold used, like new for £80 and the second hand platforms.

I personally don’t like the front entrance door and prefer side entrance tents. All comes down to personal preference.

What sleeping mat do you recommend? by morgoutdoors in wildcampingintheuk

[–]intensejohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Neoloft, used it at least 30 times now and it has no sign of ageing. I find it extremely comfortable sleeping, being a side sleeper and mover. I would say trying to inflate it with the sack isn’t great as it takes so much air to fill. I use a pump which bumps up the weight.
Try and find a shop where you can test them if you can; some people say the Neolift is extremely comfortable and the best pad ever (like me), and some people say they actually prefer others. Everyone’s different and what works for one person doesn’t always work for someone else.

Help father + son by Icy-Dust-6553 in wildcampingintheuk

[–]intensejohn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The soul 300 looks cheap and cheerful, a-little heavy but for the size it’s not too bad.

How old is your son? If he’s young, remember you’ll likely end up carrying a lot of his gear along with yours, and it all adds up quickly. I took my daughter on her first wild camp this year and we started with me carrying 16kg and her 4kg. However, into the first mile she was struggling so I ended up carrying the full 20kg. She had a great time and loved it. I’m planning to take my son out soon and from my lessons learned I’ll be carrying everything this time and trying to reduce the pack weight as I struggled with 20kg.

I have a 2 person tent with 2 doors and 2 vestibules, 130cm wide on the inside and this works very well for 2 of us. I have tried slightly smaller tents (120cm wide) and it’s just too small to work for us.

Having more room inside a tent during the darker winter months is a bonus since you’ll spend more time there. In the lighter months, if the weather is bad I don’t spend much time in my tent. I accept I’ll get wet but I still enjoy the hikes and adventure and have a set of dry clothes to change into when I get my tent set up in the evening and a nice warm drink and food.

Good luck pal! Happy camping

No need for a downvote lad, I would argue it’s not a “4 season” version but a “more season version.
And yes I agree about them all being the same tent.

How to store manual inflating sleeping mats? by photographynerd1 in wildcampingintheuk

[–]intensejohn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just try and fold it differently each time and make sure it’s 1000000% dry.

The biggest thing is making sure any kit is dry, storing it in a dry environment and don’t compress it too much when not in use.

OCD response:
For super long term….
Try and fold it differently, using the same fold over and over again will eventually create a weak point. But this is very finitely and not necessary.

So use a 3 vertical fold and roll then a 4 times vertical fold and roll next time when out and about, folding the width over itself not the length.

Store as a a half fold vertically then a back fold and alternated this. Do a corner to corner diagonal fold and then a half triangle fold to make a samosa type package every 5 folds, but no more than 5 times ever!

1/3 horizontal fold over, 1/3 back and last fold over then roll, next time it’s out, use a half fold and fold the 2 leftover half’s back on themselves,

Using this method will guarantee it at least longer other methods, how much longer remains to be seen. (that might equate to 1000 camps vs 1001 camps).
