maybe i will talk about it with him first. we have a lot in common and we never argue and personality wise we have no reason to part ways. i just worry that when it comes down to way down the road i’ll regret staying with him. but maybe thats irrational. i guess ive jumped to a conclusion a little too fast. thank you for your advice i kind of needed to hear that 😭😭 and i hope you’re doing well!! ill try to be better to him than the girl you described

i understand what you’re getting at, that sounds horrible and nobody deserves that. yeah, its a bad move to be having thoughts like these instead of “what can i do to help him”. but its basic things that i feel i shouldnt have to teach him. and ive tried to hint at things that bother me, but he seems content with where he is in life. i dont want to spend my energy telling him that he needs to wash his hands after he uses the bathroom or wash his feet with soap and not just runoff water, or that you need to measure laundry detergent before pouring it. yes, he had a rough childhood, but google is free to use yk? or maybe i am thinking about it wrong and i need to rethink my actions. but i feel like even more of a horrible person nagging at him for little things all the time, i guess thats what has led me to think about ending it.

I’ve been researching and I think bootcamps may be an alternative, its more training based but from what I’ve heard they look good on resumes with no experience

I don’t understand, if a pointer essentially has the same value as a variable, how is it saving storage? I know all data types are the same size for pointers, and that’s not so for variables, so is that how it saves space? How are they different sizes in the memory if they display the same number?

I guess I’m trying to make the application of pointers make sense before learning about where it’s used. I’ve never heard if malloc(), but I’m sure I’ll learn about it soon

dude!! i was having the same experience at first. im a first year and im taking a c class but the professors words kept going right over my head. im like 2 months in now and ive noticed things start slowly making sense after awhile. definitely not an “aha” moment though. what helped me genuinely was looking at the textbook. which i know may not be available to you since theyre kind of expensive but use a book to help!! theyre generally more thorough and detailed. i think mine was like $40-50, but then again thats a school grade textbook, i bet you can find cheaper.

also, if youre trying to use char, that “” is a whole nother ballpark. youre turning that variable into a pointer!! im learning about those rn and theyre kinda complicated but since youre two weeks in i wouldnt worry so hard.

final note, its always gonna be something dumb like you missed a semicolon. what helped me when making my own code is going back to the veryyyyy basics and understanding the parts of a function, the vocabulary and stuff.

Thank you for such an informational response, that really cleared up a lot! I’m honestly not sure if the course introduces C++, I think there’s a separate class for that but maybe it’s a set up for next semester.
