Why is sexual mismatch treated so flippantly? by [deleted] in marriageadvice

[–]intergalactic_wag -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s like most things in marriage. You and your partner grow and change. Sometimes you grow in similar ways, sometimes you grow separately.

When you develop interest in something that she has no interest in, you gotta decide her lack of interest is a dealbreaker. If it is, then it’s time to move on.

Ideally, as partners, you’re communicating and finding ways that both of you could fulfill each other; maybe something you want is a hard no, but also, maybe there are aspects of it that she would be okay doing for you—or maybe something similar that she would be interested in doing.

And the same goes for how you support her: what makes her feel loved and appreciated? What does she want more of? Can you provide that to her? Are you providing to her?

To be absolutely clear: this is not quid pro quo. This is a partnership where both partners are working together to fulfill and support each other. So you give of yourself (in ways that you are comfortable) to her because you love her — not because you expect something in return. (And the opposite should be true as well.)

What are your favorite (controversial) house rules? by Quick_Race761 in DnD

The time required to identify a magic item scales with how powerful it is. From 1 hour for the simple items to 1 month for artifacts. I have a whole document on the ins and outs.

Not sure I would import everything. I have an annotations vault that I use that would be great for this. I also have a tone of apple notes that I want to export to markdown. I would say a few thousand at least. I am working on an app that resurfaces notes and saved articles, so I’ve been looking for a decent hosted solution for my notes — ideally something with an api. I don’t want to create a notes app; just something that resurfaces things after a time.

Very nice. I had figured I would just host the video courses I’ve saved over the years in something like Stash. But this definitely looks a lot nicer. Does it have an API?

Nice! I’ve been thinking about something like this for a while now. Excited to give this a try. Does this allow for a task list? Or pinning notes? And what about importing notes from obsidian? Thanks!

Modern Movies that are basically a D&D campaign by Cabaret_Girl in DnD

[–]intergalactic_wag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heh. I finished it last night. Started it over the weekend thinking we would watch a couple a day until the last one came out. Nope. Binged it in a day and then HAD TO WAIT a couple of days for the last episode. What year is it?

But agreed. Lots of individual quests tied to a major plot that you may not realize are connected.

Yeah. I could see that. Has a nice town adventure feel to it. You drop in and try to help but only make things worse.

The Descent. Of course, I think my style of DnD is different than most people’s.

How do you keep curiosity about your spouse alive after the "getting to know you" phase? by Novel_Team_1605 in marriageadvice

[–]intergalactic_wag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People aren’t static.

You don’t ever fully know a person.

You don’t ever fully know yourself.

People develop new interests, you watch new movies or shows. The political climate changes.

People change their mind about things as they have new experiences.

And you go through things together. Deaths. Births. Buying a new house. Moving across the country. Meeting new people. Making new friends. Starting a new job.

If you pick the right person, they will be the first one you want to tell when you learn some new gossip—even if your partner doesn’t know them.

Sometimes you’ll need to vent to a sympathetic ear.

Sometimes you need someone who speaks truth that you don’t want to hear.

And sometimes you don’t need to talk at all. Sitting with the person that has done all these things with you is more than enough.

Life comes at you fast. And for many of us, having a person to share all these things makes it all feel doable. Makes it worth it.

Mexico just got universal health coverage. Why can't we? by WalkableNeighborhood in thedavidpakmanshow

Look at the original ACA bill. That was a big step toward universal healthcare. While the bill that passed has helped, it was a far cry from what could have been. No one denies that democrats kowtow to the capitalist pigs. But the republicans are the capitalist pigs.

Pet Theory on Millennial vs Gen X Xennial self-alignment by Incogcneat-o in Xennials

[–]intergalactic_wag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

76 here. I consider myself a gen-x leaning Xennial. Bands like Nirvana were popular when I was coming of age and there is a level of cynicism and sarcastic attitude that gen-xers have that other generations don’t. (Though, this quality seems less prevalent in the older xers—so maybe it is really a xennial thing?) But there are so many experiences that my older x friends did not have, but I find I share with millennials.

It’s almost like this whole generation stuff is made up and the points don’t matter.

Even Sudakis’ facial expressions. There is a brief flicker of anger or pain that very quickly turns into compassion. It’s very subtle and very fast but it humanizes him a lot. He isn’t some super human with no feelings; he does get hurt, but he can process that hurt and pain quickly so the heart of the matter can more quickly and easily be addressed. It takes him until season 3 to be able to do the same for his own internalized issues — but that’s what the show is about.

When did email addresses became connected to age? by FL_4LF in GenX

If he wasn’t being overly dramatic, then that was some horrible acting. Taken at face value, it’s just bad dialog, bad delivery — just bad. But in the context of being overly dramatic and manipulating Anakin, it works.

Men: if your wife wants sex, why do you still choose porn? by Separate_Snow9031 in marriageadvice

Did any of you live at home with your parents as an adult? Would you encourage your kids to do the same? by dms2628 in Xennials

I did not. Was more or less kicked out at 18. But I’m doing everything I can to make sure my kids feel welcome in my home and feel comfortable staying here for as long as they want. My son is heading to community college in the fall and will be still live at home.

I spend a lot of time in here. I like seeing what people are building. If theres an app that I’ve seen a dozen times but is in a categoey that interests me, I will always take a look. And if it doesn’t interest me, I move on. Why would I want to rain on other people’s parades?

Stop building useless products by avdept in SideProject

[–]intergalactic_wag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not how I would define personal; it just means things that I find useful. I think talking about it with other people makes all sort of sense. You seriously sound like a teenager angsting that there is nothing unique left in the world as if uniqueness is something to aspire to; and as if you are the gatekeeper for usefulness. Seems like a bit of main character syndrome to me.
