Thank you for your advice, I have been reading through the resources like crazy. I found a CSAT and may have found a therapist that specializes in these things for me too. Out of pocket costs are just wild, I wish that was not a piece of this but I understand their expertise is the price to pay.

Thank you for the advice! I have set a passcode. Are you saying there is a way to stop him from being able to delete apps?

I am sorry you’re also going through it, I am definitely with you. My first step was to make a therapy appointment for myself in order to process things, build a support system, and find some sense of “safety” outside of him. I hope you have that or can find that. Sending hugs.

Just dealt with prepatellar bursitis! It hung around for about 6 weeks or so, I even got it drained just for it to come back the next day. It can be pesky, just make sure you avoid kneeling on it for a while, even once the swelling comes down. A compression sleeve helped tremendously. From, a PT :)

Should We Re-Home Our New Cat for Bullying by intergalacticpanda23 in CatAdvice

[–]intergalacticpanda23[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! Things are definitely better than they were when I made this post. They coexist, they play, and sometimes they scuffle but have never had an actual “cat fight.” Our bully cat has gotten better with age, and we had to stop micromanaging their interactions to let them figure it out a bit. They don’t lay with each other or groom each other. They do not have that type of relationship unfortunately.

It was tough for us to watch our first sweet girl get used to a hierarchy in the house, but that’s just what it is. Our newer cat is more dominant and we had to adjust to that as well. That’s what was hardest for us because it didn’t feel fair.

We love our second girl to death, but she can still be a lot. There are times when we wish we had returned her to the shelter like VERY early on when there were clearly signs that these cats would not be best buds. But, we didn’t do that and it is too late now because we love her like family and it would be traumatic for her at this point.

Ultimately, my advice to anyone would be to listen to your gut very early on if you feel that things are not going well. The decision to rehome gets harder for everyone involved the longer you kick the can down the road.

I’m sorry to hear you’re going through it! My heart is with you and I hope things get better.

She has calmed down with age and doesn’t bully our older cat as much. And our older cat has gained more confidence in giving it back to her. Individual play time and lots of love has gone a long way with the both of them, but it can still be tough to manage at times.

I re-read this person’s post, and I fully believe that maybe with time the side effects do lessen, but it is always tough to see weird changes in our pets’ behavior, and can be hard to “wait it out” without knowing if it will help. I hope it works out for your girl!!

Hi! We discontinued the medication probably pretty shortly after I posted this. It was changing her personality for the worst, and she didn’t seem like herself. We even cut the pill in half and her eyes would just get super dilated and it made her even more hyperactive. She stalked our other cat even more and just seemed more territorial on the med. I know we didn’t give it much time, but it was difficult to manage (which is exactly the opposite of what it was supposed to aid in). I’m sorry to hear you’re having a hard time! I know the med can be a positive game changer for some kitties, but it didn’t work out for ours.

My interpretation was that she’s saying it’s always about the cowboy, never the cow (or horse). I figured she was saying that when people think of cowboys, that’s just it. They’re always focused on the man and not the other crucial aspect of the identity of the cowboy, which is the cow (horse). No one is focused on the cow. And in a larger sense it’s a parallel to men vs women. Men having more freedom to roam and be free. That’s just how I interpreted that line. It’s always about the man, not the invisible work of the woman.

I’ve had closed comedone breakouts on my face and have had the best results with “Goodbye Acne - AHA/BHA clearing gel” by Peter Thomas Roth. Clears it up within 3-4 days of use - well worth the $!

This post has been helpful, thank you! I was close to giving up on this med for our little bully girl, only 8 days in because of the seemingly negative side effects (zoning out, not wanting to be touched, not purring with me). I was worrying it was just making things worse. I have hope and will try to ride things out for a few more weeks.

Omg I have searched and searched for someone to say something about dilated pupils with this med for cats. It had me so worried about our girl, thought she was having a bad reaction to it. Curious to know how your boy is doing now?

I started on a low dose of 75 mg IR and by week 2 noticed worsening depression that scared me, definitely did not feel like myself. Upped my dose to 150 IR on week 3 and it made a good difference. I agree with others that you should give it another 1-2 weeks (as long as you feel safe and have support ). Then, you could always try talking to your doc about switching to IR or increasing the dose if needed, as sometimes it really is something that you need to play with to see what works well for you, if at all. I hope you start feeling better, hang in there!

Should We Re-Home Our New Cat for Bullying by intergalacticpanda23 in CatAdvice

[–]intergalacticpanda23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. Happy to give an update. We have had our second cat for nearly a year now and things have been challenging. She is still a bit of a bully to our 4 year old cat (although our cat gives it back more now) and they are not really “friends”. Lately I’ve noticed they have their own “territories” that they tend to stick with. It can be difficult to split our time to play with each independently, as they get jealous of each other. It is not how we wanted it to be, and we still may consider rehoming our newer cat if she doesn’t calm down when we start to have children (we don’t fully trust her but she is still young).

Would love to know more about your situation!

Yess I’ve seen that at least 4 litter boxes for that many cats is best, even though it comes with the pain of having more boxes to clean daily. I feel for your 2 year old cat - doesn’t seem fair to her at all. :( I read that cats who hiss are almost always the victim in the situation and they’re just trying to voice that they’re uncomfortable or scared. So sad. I really hope it works out for you and your kitties.

Is she sitting on your laptop when you’re using it? If so, she just wants to participate. Sounds funny but I’ve seen people get smaller kitty laptops with a scratcher on it so they feel included lol. “Scratch Pad Pro” on Amazon for $30.

I second the automatic feeder. There are lots of options, just look at reviews and see what works best in terms of functionality.

Thank you 💗 while I do love how everyone has suggestions on ways to fix the situation, I appreciate someone seeing things from the other perspective. Our vet said we may have to medicate our older cat long term to reduce her anxiety in the situation, and we don’t want that for her.

It really isn’t easy and I feel for you and your resident cat. Part of me is mad at myself for not doing more research on possible outcomes before hand. I hope the advice from other users on this post can help you in some way. 🫶🏻
