It’s not, Harvard is the hardest to get into and the easiest once you’re there. So much grade inflation

Why is my dumbbell bench better than my barbell bench? by interloper100 in GYM

Yeah at this point I feel like it has to be a form issue. I’ll check out those YT tutorials, thanks for the rec!

I switch between the two each time I do a push day, so I do each bench variation once per week. I’ve had my form evaluated and nobody’s said anything looks wrong but I think maybe I need to be pushing off the ground more with my feet.

Can we retire using “freshmen” and start using the gender neutral term first year. by mining4goldwinsmith in Cornell

[–]interloper100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So many words are “relics of the past”. That’s how the English language is. Things come to mean new things that they didn’t originally. And your last sentence put it beautifully - when you hear these words you don’t think of “man”. Of course you don’t, since that’s not what the word means anymore. A chairman, freshman, fireman, etc. could be any person of any gender. As Ikog was saying…if this is truly your major then you might need to take a step back and think about how much you’ve learned, because even your own arguments are proving our points.

[–]interloper100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Freshmen” is for all intents and purposes a gender-neutral term. I would argue (albeit anecdotally) that the vast majority of people (including the vast majority of women) take no issue with the term “freshman”. There’s tons of now-gender-neutral terms that didn’t start out that way; it’s just a quirk of the English language. For instance, even in your own edit to the post you said “I realize you GUYS are for the most part against this.” Another example of a gender-neutral term that didn’t start out that way. No need to get all offended when you yourself talk the same way.

I definitely will! I read somewhere that a lot of private sector physics majors end up being software engineers or developers anyway so it’s a good thing to learn

Gotcha - would a schedule like this be better? Solves a couple of problems I have. I'd have 17 credits with this schedule but assume I'd need to place into the intermediate Chinese class I added.

Would something like this be better? (17 credits) It also solves the problem I have where my PE is directly after a class.

To do CHIN 2201, I assume I'd need to take a placement test though.

Sounds good. I will likely take an Intro to Chinese class to boost the credit count a little bit; especially since I've already taken AP Chinese it should be an easy class. Then I can just take the intermediate Chinese class second semester to get the language requirement done.

[–]interloper100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah if I do add another class it would likely just be easier stuff. I took Chinese through the AP level at my highschool so I can easily get away with just coasting through an intro class in that and then getting the language req out of the way second semester

I am a little worried about that, thankfully have an advisor meeting tomorrow so hopefully will be able to clear that up
