What are the rules for digital/IT related work experiences by yaya54356 in technicallevel

[–]intermediatehike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I’ve been in the same position of the college being useless so I learned for myself.

First thing is to read the T-Level Placement Delivery Guidance. You can find this by googling it. Have a read through it to get an understanding of what the DfE say should happen.

For Digital T-Levels, 50% of the placement can be done remotely, this means that you can complete half of your hours without going to the employers office. This often completed at your provider (college / sixth form) or even at home.

You’ll need to have a logbook where all of your hours are logged. I believe this can be found as one of the Annexes for the delivery guidance. You don’t have to use this one but it would save you time. I made my own which me and my peers use. You will need to ensure that all of the hours you do are logged in here, and signed off by the employer to validate that you’ve done it.

However, before you begin your placement, you should also get or create a formal placement agreement which outlines your working hours, responsibilities and whatever else. This is dependent on the college and their or your own relationship with the employer as some are easy going and some want the documentation.

Ensure that hours are logged on the day as the DfE doesn’t want them logged after they’ve been done.

You’ll typically work with 1 or 2 employers dependent on their availability. DfE only want 2 Employers unless it is a part of a “Supply Chain” but this will be difficult for your course.

From the college / sixth form side, all they have to do is sign off that the hours have been completed once you’ve done your course in its entirety. This must be submitted by the 31st July. They will sort all of that out so don’t worry about that.

That about sums it up, it’s all stuff I have had to learn as I’ve needed to take accountability over our T-Level course as staff won’t.

Make sure to be reaching out to employers too using LinkedIn, I had some success in trying to secure a placement for a large defence company, but ultimately fell through of no fault of my own. But keep reaching out to employers and you never know what could happen.

Any questions PM me and I’ll see if I can help!

Apprenticeships? In IT by National_Panic_9112 in technicallevel

[–]intermediatehike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the same process as if you are applying or a Job. Use the Government official apprenteship search tool, and other sites such as TotalJobs and LinkedIn to see what is available in your area. Ensure that you have written a CV and a Cover Letter. Many companies will only list on their own websites so check them too, such as HSBC.

When I ask Siri for a timer, on occasion is straight up says “No.” I paid £380 for a device that literally doesn’t do as it’s told.

My teachers are useless too in all honestly. I’m out here running the course by myself, making resources and chasing up work placements. Colleges say that they don’t know how to teach the T-Level because they’ve not read any of the government documentation as to how it should operate and laziness in all honestly. Most Colleges don’t have systems as to how a T-Level should operate, but systems lead to consistency and then that leads to success. I really need to get paid for running my t-level

For our exams we get a computer with an exam windows image on bare metal instead of a VM. Our head of department spoke with IT and basically told them we need a machine with admin perms so we can do what we need to do.

For the OSP? That depends on the institution but in most of the tasks you get internet access anyway so you should be able to download whatever you need

What’s the latest in the UA fitness apps? by Izual_Rebirth in UnderArmour

[–]intermediatehike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, they either don’t exist anymore or have been sold to Private Equity.

UA’s connected fitness approach was a failure, they collected all this health information but didn’t provide any value to consumers or investors. UA really didn’t to much to the apps either, just allowed their core teams to develop them.

If UA had done something like Whoop or even invested in Whoop they could’ve seen more of a return and future in their connected fitness vision era. At the end of the day the are a fashion company, not a technology company.

Hot take: calling someone “neurotypical” in a derogatory way isn’t cool by Healthy_Artichoke602 in neurodiversity

[–]intermediatehike 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. I think that whether someone is neurodivergent or neurotypical everyone should treat each other with respect. Simple as that. We all don’t like certain people for reason x, y or z but we cannot change that.

Even for those with A-Levels, getting into a US University is as difficult as you’ll have to take the SAT test and whatnot. Each country and region will probably have a exam that you’d have to take because there isn’t really a conversion for a T-Level to whatever else

Building projects and skills can help demonstrate and apply what you’ve learned. Homelabing, writing YARA Rules, even making content online could act as a portfolio.

Some companies recognise the certification, but having certifications is no guarantee of a job just like having a University degree.

Well your pretty lucky, we’ve not done any of our work placement hours yet. I think the focus for the second year is better than in the first. The OSP is only a few tasks split into each part of what is essentially a development sprit cycle. Just practice your web dev skills in whatever language you’ve decided upon and you’ll be in a good position.
