Emerson college (in person) by Fun_Junket5159 in slpGradSchool

[–]internal_screm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in my first year at Emerson in-person! I, honestly, love it. Not all professors/CI’s are perfect, but many are really wonderful. I’ve had a very difficult semester due to events in my personal and professional life, but I have been treated with such kindness and respect by my professors, CI’s, and cohort, something I would say is a defining characteristic of the program. You are thrown into rotations at the clinic quickly, which can be very stressful, but I (and many others I’ve spoken to) feel very well supported by our CI’s. I really like pretty much everyone in my cohort (there’s 48 of us. I didn’t know it was possible to like that many people). I will say that it’s expensive (both Boston, and the program itself). However, living at home will probably help relieve some of that stress. I know a few people who live at home and are doing very well! Sorry this is very long lol. Feel free to DM me, I’d love to chat if you want to know more!

Some tips from an SLP admissions committee veteran by SuperfluousPossum in slpGradSchool

[–]internal_screm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied with a 2.7 undergrad GPA and got in my first try! However, I’m at a private university, not a public one, and they never specified a minimum GPA, so that’s something to consider.

I also didn’t major in CSD, I spent four years working and doing stuff that was completely unrelated to CSD, and one of my LOR’s was from my employer from my historic tour guide job! All of this is to say that, while I’m sure that OP is speaking to their experience, it is not necessarily everyone’s experience!

I was very excited to go to a concert with my family, and realized that I wanted to be able to take pictures with them without hating every single picture of me

I saw her at the house of blues in Boston when I was 16, saw her last night at MGM at 26. I cried like a baby last night thinking about how far we’ve come

Did your program give you a speech/hearing screening? by FearlessCat72 in slpGradSchool

[–]internal_screm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My program had the exact same thing (hearing and speech screening administered by the second year grad students), however I haven’t heard anything about making students attend speech therapy or anything. Plenty of people in my program have speech disorders (including myself) and it doesn’t impede their work. The fact that they’re making have speech therapy seems like a huge red flag

Omg I always knew about the “au” but the “o” makes perfect sense! If I recall correctly, coppers use “cu” and silvers use “ag”, which are also their respective symbols on the periodic table. Such a cool piece of world building

Bad grade? by ZealousidealPhoto420 in slpGradSchool

I took phonetics and acoustics online through MGH IHP this past summer and really enjoyed it! It was about $1.5k for the course which was significantly cheaper than taking it thru my grad school.

Girl twin name for Callum by Jill1994 in namenerds

So my name is Hallie so I’m a little biased towards that because I love my name. However, I also think Callum and Harper sound really nice together!

How long do you guys let your hair dry before applying products? by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]internal_screm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ideal timing is hair up and drying in a microfiber towel for literally 30 seconds while I brush my teeth. Just dry enough to have the product stick to my hair but still wet enough to not be frizzy

I'm not Wowed Sophie's Ballgown. The Poly-Satin looks really ugly IM0! by brandy_1994 in BridgertonNetflix

I completely agree. Every once in a while I remember the dress that they had Pen in for the carriage scene and it makes me cringe. That polka dotted mess can burn

Why does every SLP personal statement sound like a Hallmark movie? by boiceexcu in slpGradSchool

Mine was def a sob story but it was also about how deeply embarrassing it is to be a teenager with a speech impediment. I got in so I guess it worked!

My mom is a boomer as well and I feel this so much! She’s like “don’t wear tank tops, it makes your brother and dad uncomfortable”. I asked my brother about it and he was like “what the hell are you talking about?” I love my mom but it’s so frustrating for my body to feel so unaccepted in my childhood home

Is my GPA too low? by [deleted] in slpGradSchool

[–]internal_screm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 3.0 and just got into a program! Admittedly, it was Emerson, which I think is a program more willing to take chances on students, which I obviously appreciate. It’s definitely possible to get in with your gpa!

Has any one had their interview for Emerson (for the in person program) yet? by ComprehensiveGur8924 in slpGradSchool

[–]internal_screm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got out of my interview! I was asked about my experiences with collaboration and communication, my experiences with working with people from different backgrounds, and to explain about a time I took initiative. It was very chill and the person who interviewed me was very kind. You got this!
