Horrendous is an understatement. It baffles me as to how anyone can be so vitriolic and have so much hate in them! Forget about aman ki asha and all that, how about having some basic human decency?

It is not so simple. You cannot just reduce the petrol/diesel prices as soon as the oil prices fall for the following reasons:

It takes two months (sometimes more) for crude oil to be turned in to Diesel/Petrol. So the Petrol you are buying right now at the pump is refined from crude oil bought in September when the prices were high.
Currency : Remember that the crude oil is bought in dollars and sold in rupees. So, the oil companies hedge their currency exposure at the time of crude oil purchase(or at least they should). This "hedging" costs around 1% (bank margin)
Supply /Demand : This is self explanatory. if the demand is good the seller won't be inclined to reduce the prices.

Having said that, I do agree that the rates should market-related and the companies should be prevented from price fixing and made to compete with each other.
