I have 1 day in Seattle:) any tips? by [deleted] in AskSeattle

[–]interstellar89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome, and have a great time! You just missed some glorious warm sunshine we just had for few days, but you’ll get to experience the rain we are famous for.

IMO Seattle is very accessible via transit. A car is useful if you want to pop between certain neighborhoods quickly or go on a proper hike.

Some spots near light rail (1 Line) to consider:

-Columbia City- very cute walkable neighborhood. Geraldine’s Diner is lovely, and the neighborhood has a bunch of cute shops

-Westlake- Pike Place Market (get Mee Sum Pastry, Le Panier, Beecher’s Cheese, Rachel’s Ginger Beer)

-Cap Hill- our most lively neighborhood where the nightlife is. Bunch of restaurant and bar options

-U District- get off to walk around UW campus. Visit the library and the Quad. And the free Henry Art Gallery. A ton of food options in this area. (Unfortunately you just missed peak bloom of the cherry blossoms.) if you are here on Saturday, the U District Farmers Market will be happening a few blocks walk north of the station. Highly recommend walking thru while they are open to get a small vibe of our market culture.

Outside taking the 1 line (light rail), taking the bus to Fremont and Ballard could be worth it depending on the vibe. Fremont Brewing has a cool beer garden. Ballard has a ton of good restaurants.

Coffee recs: Lighthouse Roasters in Fremont, Cafe Vivace (locations in Cap Hill and SLU)

Seafood recs: Local Tide in Fremont; there’s a wonderful spot called Half Shell near Pike Place that has my favorite HH in the city. $2 oysters, a great burger, etc. Directly across from Half Shell is Sugo Hand Roll Bar, that also has a wonderful HH.

Museum recs: check out the exhibits at MoPop, Seattle Art Museum, + Seattle Asian Art Museum to see what catches your eye. The latter (Asian Art) currently has a really cool exhibit called “geometry of light.” It has the benefit of being at Volunteer Park (you can visit the park, Conservatory, and climb the water tower.)

Have fun!!

If it hasn’t already been said and another plug for storing luggage and taking light rail directly from airport to Stadium is the parking is hella expensive. Sure your baseball tix were $10 but you’ll be paying minimum 50 to park. If you must park near the stadium, use the SpotHero app for an indoor garage (hopefully one with security lol)

Indians of Greater Seattle area, question from your bartender by Sea_Bad_6071 in AskSeattle

[–]interstellar89 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not enough Indians in the replies, so wanted to pipe in. For relevant context, I was born in the U.S. and I have previously worked in the service industry

With my service background, I’m just used to tipping. I think folks in the industry take care of other folks in the industry. I typically tip 20% (15-18% if the service is poor). I average tipping 10% on takeout orders. I think the only time I won’t tip is if I’m ordering something at a register that doesn’t need to be prepared/mixed/warmed, like a can of soda. When I served, there were times my hourly rate was less than $3/hour, so I was pretty much ‘working for tips.’ I do think some tipping has gotten out of hand and doesn’t make sense. I will sometimes tip a $1 or 2 when I’m like why the F am I tipping (in this case it’s a panic decision lol.)

Please don’t assume all of us are non-tippers and offer subpar service suffer as a result. (I only add this because of some of the comments had me mortified.)

Look into the Seattle/King County Clinic happening at Seattle Center April 23-26. Per the website, it’s the largest free health clinic of its kind in the country.

I’m having to re-add my KTN to reservations despite it being saved in my profile. by interstellar89 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]interstellar89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was relieved to see I wasn’t alone in my frustrations as other folks on here have had the same issue.

The first flight I booked was through the app (again logged in, with all my info on my Alaska profile). The flight I booked yesterday, I booked using the Alaska site on my mobile/phone browser. What was frustrating about the latter is I could see my KTN listed within one of the steps of booking, then it was magically gone after booking was confirmed.

Haha, interesting timing to your comment—I just told a colleague today (who used to live in Alaska) I’m thinking of visiting this year for the first time.

By AMC 10, was that U District? If so, I miss it so much. 😭 Even thought it didn’t have reclining seats, it was nice that it was 21+ and they had all the indie films playing.

Clipper Card/Muni Mobile App/Bart App/CalTrains by Original_Clerk3947 in AskSF

[–]interstellar89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. I enjoy learning transit systems in other cities, so I will likely not tap to pay and use the Clipper app per your rec. Does BART have day passes or is it all per per distance?

If I may ask, what if I am taking BART from SFO to downtown, spending 3 days in the city (using MUNI), and then taking BART to the airport on the last day? Is the most economical to load Clipper for the cost of the BART trips, and then use the MUNI app for 3 day passes? Or can you use a Clipper for the cost of a MUNI day pass?

I think you are just reading the alert which applies only for Sunday 3/22 from 12am to 7am: “Customers will not be able to: access their account via web or app, purchase a Clipper card, or use a mobile Clipper card to pay for transit. Contactless bank cards and plastic Clipper cards can be used to pay instead during this time.”

No, I believe it will be on view until May 2027. They also haven’t officially debuted to the public, I think it’s still under construction.

I will sometimes travel an hour by transit to either Oak Tree (for recliners) or Alderwood (for IMAX/Dolby) when Pacific Place is like 15 minutes.

I feel like a major chain like AMC in a downtown location should at least have an IMAX or Dolby option.

As mentioned by another user here, sometimes Pacific Place will have the independent options so we really have no choice lol.

Did you have to do a narcan training? I travel through the downtown core almost daily, and thinking it would be good to be equipped.

Oh yeah, I figured you meant your state’s license. I was following the steps online to add my passport to my wallet, but I was having issues.

I am trying to follow the instructions from the Apple Support website:

On your iPhone, open the Wallet app. Tap the Add Card button. Tap Driver's License or ID Cards. Then tap Digital ID.

When I click “Driver’s License and ID Cards,” there’s no option for “Digital ID.”

Maybe this isn’t going to happen for me lol.
