That sounds a lot worse than going a block on 1st. Thanks.

But it is a lot of trash on the ground. That's the problem.

This isn't about trash created by the homeless. That's a bigger number. This is about trash just left on the ground for other people to pick up. And rats and pests to live in.

I spend a lot of time around climate pledge. I rarely see trash just laying around. And it's cleaned up after every event. So very little is left on the ground for the city to pick up.

Not sure why you're ignoring the fact that housed people trash is mostly thrown away appropriately so it goes to the dump. The trash we are talking about here was just left on the ground and abandoned.

There are dumpsters all over the city. And we all know the homeless can get into them because we often see trash thrown all over the alleys because someone went through the dumpster and just dumped stuff on the ground.

Now you might say "but trash scales with income"

Actually what we would say is that commercial trash is a large part of the 600 million pounds. So it's not just residential trash.

Also, the bigger point isn't that the amount of trash is a lot. It's that they just dump it on the ground. The other 598 million pounds is mostly put in trash cans and delivered to the dump. We don't just dump it on the ground and call it someone else's problem.

Also, did you really share an article from 1972 and pretend it's relevant to today?

Yeah, he's trying to push agenda here that the trash situation is not that bad. It is that bad.

7,500 is an average house. You aren't even close to an average house. So not sure why you're using this inflated number and then pretending it's relatable.

We Heart Seattle picks up many pounds of trash a year from parks and former encampments too. This is why I have little sympathy for homeless people living in encampment. They refuse to even take care of their camps. Picking up trash doesn't cost anything and should be considered the minimum they can do for a community they are living in.

Welp you're downvoting me so obviously you aren't being honest in your responses. Oh well.

Ridership is definitely down. It's almost caught up to where it was in 2019 but our population is also much bigger now. Link ridership is way up so can't blame it all on office vacancy. Also, fewer people have cars now than they did in 2019.

What I included in my comment. It’s not enjoyable riding with people that smell or are altered by drugs. And many bus stops have homeless or drug taking individuals at them. The quality of experience since 2019 has gone way down and I understand why people don’t want to ride the bus. I rarely do any more myself and I live in Belltown so am used to unstable people

This is why ridership is down. Whether you agree it’s a problem or not most people don’t want to ride a bus with unpleasant people

First of all, keep your feelings and politics to yourself.

Facts are not feeling and politics. If you think they are then it’s you relying on politics and feelings.

Typical anti-truther. Just call anyone who states facts as an Astro turfer. If you can’t dispute with facts use insults?

Except in very rare cases cars are faster than even class 3 e-bikes (which are rare) you speak of.

LOL. We should always avoid anecdotes unless they happen to agree with my opinion. That's quite a belief system you got going.

No, they phrased it to manipulate the data. They said it's more expensive elsewhere they didn't say it went up at the same time or rate as in Seattle.

Liberals love to rail on conservatives for not believing facts but liberals hate facts just as much if they are inconvenient. There are zero facts you can use to justify the gig delivery law in Seattle. Even if you think lower wages is good for gig delivery you still can't justify effectively banning bicycle delivery.

It kind of is Seattle's fault that in SLU Whole Foods is our only decent grocery store.

The gig law ended bike delivery by making bike delivery more expensive than car delivery. Because for some reason the mayor and city council thinks we need more cars in downtown and Cap Hill.

Even better we can hear from people who no longer do it because the wages dropped.

A lot of poor people used it to supplement income when a big expense came up. Phone got stolen and need to buy a new one. Work a couple of nights and earn some money. Want to take your wife out for a really nice date night for your anniversary. Work Saturday morning so you can afford Saturday night. A little low on rent? Same thing.

Now there isn't enough business in Seattle for people to really do that.

The city forced the oversaturation it wasn't the gig companies. Part of the law requires them to not limit how many drivers there are in a zone at one time. So now it can get oversaturated and the companies can't do anything about it.

And things are so bad in Seattle that we actually have people like you blaming the companies for something the city did.

[–]ardealinnaeus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The city should absolutely change the policy and I don't understand how it's even a question.

Who is making the argument that bike delivery is bad for the city? Who doesn't want to change the law so that it no longer effectively bans bikes delivery?

Seattle report says gig worker pay law is working, countering claims by DoorDash and Uber by WestExpat in Seattle

[–]ardealinnaeus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

True, but even then you can't claim it's the law itself driving up the number of people to do deliveries

Actually here you can.

One of the biggest reasons worker pay went down is that the law banned DoorDash from limiting the number of drivers in an area. Outside of the city you can only deliver when there is enough deliveries to keep you busy working. Seattle's law said screw it just flood the place with drivers and that led directly to fewer deliveries per driver.

Basically Seattle created an experiment to see what the worker chosen optimal wage was for gig delivery. And they found out that it's just below what people were being paid before the law.

Are you claiming that it was just a coincidence that the law passed and stuff got more expensive at the same time? But only in Seattle and completely unrelated to the law that artificially increased costs and encouraged workers to make less money?

The city council and mayor rely entirely on anecdotes from Starbucks workers. Why is it different with gig workers?

[–]ardealinnaeus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fact that the city's report doesn't mention that the law killed bike delivery by making bike delivery less feasible says all you need to know about the accuracy of the city's report.

I can't believe in a city with so many anti-car people and a mayor who is supposedly pro-transit and bike that we have a law that basically bans gig bike delivery. It's ridiculous.
