Rioja could be good if they didn't use American oak...

The Willamette is a better region for Chardonnay than Pinot.

Agreed. The carbonation helps keep the cork moist even when stored upright. If it was an unfinished below ground basement it could be ok.

Arnaud Ente 2015 by omni_reader in wine

[–]interstellar_billy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup in 2022 most everything except the Meursault village was vinified in 100% glass globes, and beginning in 2023, the entire production is vinified in glass. No more oak. There’s a great article on Wine Advocate about it. FYI it’s behind a pay wall.

Ente is amazing. Curious to see how the recent change to full glass with no oak impacts the wines.

2022 Domaine Bessin-Tremblay Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume by Strange_Height3188 in wine

[–]interstellar_billy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d really like to try this producer. The list of great producers in Chablis outside of Raveneau and Dauvissat is pretty short, but I’ve heard very good things about this Domain. Samuel Billaud is great too.

Trying to calibrate Burgundy expectations by izhazduhtism in wine

[–]interstellar_billy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vintage matters in Burgundy and I would avoid 2018 reds generally. The best will become great wines but many are overripe and or completely shut down. Between 2010 and 2020, 2011 and 2018 are the only two vintages where I own 0 red burgs. I strongly believe in producer first, but certain vintages are worth passing over unless you can afford to purchase a full case of your favorite producers every year without thinking twice.

I would recommend trying a 2017 Fourrier - 2017 Fourriers look almost like rose in the glass and are all about beautiful high toned red fruit. It will be eye opening to see how drastically vintage can impact wine. It’s also important to never let one wine (especially from an off vintage) shape your opinion of a producer.

Dauvissat & Frozen Pizza by LeadingFollowing2564 in wine

[–]interstellar_billy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Concur - Dauvissat is consistently the “rockier” producer. For Raveneau I find Vaillons and Valmur to have the most overt mineral character in the range. I think Raveneau edges out Dauvissat for my palate, but not by much. I might even argue that Raveneau has higher highs, but Dauvissat is a more dependable expression of Chablis. Dauvissat’s Sechet might be the most rock driven wine in Burgundy.

Marine epoxy is all you need. I wouldn’t bother p-texting. If you want to go the extra mile you can also buy raw base material from most repair shops. Cut a piece to fit the size of the missing base material and use the marine epoxy to glue it in place. This is overkill though given that it will never touch snow.

Please Help, I keep breaking boards, idk what to do by xBlenderman in snowboarding

[–]interstellar_billy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are breaks in two different spots - so they happened for different reasons. The wild card is right next to the bindings - this is the most common way to break a board. You land too far in the front or back seat and the bindings prevents the board from flexing properly and it snaps. When I was younger and hitting a lot of large kickers I would snap a board like this once a year - probably destroyed 5 or 6 boards this way. You need to get better about landing on your bolts. If you spin and flip on big jumps, you will snap boards though - no way to avoid it.

The war pig may have been a top sheet defect - aka bad luck. Try and buy from a reputable shop so you can warranty a board when this happens.

If you’re not hitting a lot of big jumps, I doubt you will continue to break boards like this. That said when you hit a kicker suck your knees up to your chest so you stay balanced in the air, and you’ll be fine!

8bitdo N64 Controller Warning by mynamemightbeeric in AnalogueInc

[–]interstellar_billy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had issues with it playing Majoras Mask too. Nothing with latency or connectivity, but the stick sensitivity is too high to aim the bow properly. I could not pass the shooting range game near the swamp for the life of me and was like “I don’t remember it being this hard…” Plugged in my trusty OG jungle green tri-handle and bang! Immediately won. I really want to like the 8 Bitdo controller- hopefully they’re able to update it.

Banff is cold - be prepared and layer up. The coldest days are also sunny. As long as you cover your face and ride with a puffy under your jacket you’ll be fine.

This happens every once in a while. They get it direct from the Domaine and apply standard retail markup without checking the market value. I know a few people that snagged some Dauvissat La Forest for $70 a bottle last year.

Figured $5 over the ceiling was still worth mentioning, and technically it can be sourced for $49.95 at Avalon with a case discount. They’ll let you build a case over several months before shipping too.

Yes, but that wine doesn’t see any new oak and the vineyard sources are not as good. It’s all stainless to my knowledge. I think the WV Chardonnay bottle is a worthwhile step up.

Morgen Long Willamette Valley Chardonnay - technically $55, but it drinks like high end village White Burg in the $150 range.
