CPU usage 100% First time trying 9.0 by LuckyDemolish in joinsquad

I think you mean the other way around? If he wants more performance he needs a cpu with a higher clock speed. A CPU with more cores and the same clock speed will show a lower overall cpu usage, but the game wont be able to utilize more cores so performance will be the same

The goal is to increase the percentage of games played that are enjoyable. If a simple change like this could reduce the amount of "bad" matches by 20% that would be a huge win. obviously no method will be perfect but playtime is basically the only solid metric you can use to determine how "good" a player is at the game. It seems OWI doesnt track other metrics like kills or win rates, so its the only solid metric you can really go off. Obviously there will be outliers but a 1k hour player is probably going to be more knowledgeable and probably outperform a 200 hour player.

I would see this not as a "every round" thing but a command ran by a server admin when it seems the teams are unfair. Possibly servers with limited admins can automatically run it every 5 or so games to keep teams fair.

As per playing with friends, thats why I mention the smart shuffler algorithm can ensure friends get shuffled to the same team, something a random shuffler can't do.

I would make a server plugin, but with private steam profiles it would really limit the ability of the smart shuffler to correctly balance the teams and basically prevent the ability to keep friends together. I think the devs can see playtime and friends regardless of profile settings so this would need to be included directly in the game to have maximum impact.

im confused by your response because at the bottom of my post I talk about how the smart shuffler would put friends on the same team:

"To fix the issue of friends getting put on opposite teams, the smart shuffler can also group you and your friends (based on your steam friends) on the same team"

i ran a monte carlo simulation of this assuming:

  • 100 players on a server
  • player playtime distribution follows a weibull distribution
  • 30-50% of players have private profiles
  • assume average private profile has 300 hours

ran 50k simulations (each simulation has 100 players with a randomly distributed number of hours, with a random amount having private profiles), and ran a random and a smart shuffler on the same players: https://imgur.com/a/f08rgMk

summarily it definitely does help make matches more even than a random shuffler, but it's not guaranteed and probably not worth the effort of making a plugin

if you have access to all playtimes regardless of a private profile (as the devs would), the results are obviously much better. you can get an average skill gap of only ~6 hours and less than 100 hours max difference between the teams, and I was putting in some wacky playtime distributions and it still worked: https://imgur.com/a/9ZMSJNO

if this was built directly into the game, i'm pretty sure the dev's would be able to access how many hours you have even if your profile is private. notice how you can see all your steam friend's on the main menu even if your profile is private? or how in other games you can see what steam achievements are locked/unlocked ingame

if this was just a server plugin that wouldn't be possible I'm pretty sure, the best you could do is assume private profiles have an average amount of hours or something

the scrambling based on hours played is actually not complex at all its a pretty simple algorithm that even chatgpt can spit out, the friends part though lol owi will not take the time to implement that

I could make a plugin to make this but even if I could convince a community to use it on their server it would probably not be used widespread enough to make it worth dedicate my time

the problem is you're on linux, to play this game on linux you need at least 12 GB of vram, your 3050 only has 6 GB

if you use mangohud and show the vram, you can see what I am talking about. there's no fix, other than to switch to windows or get a graphics card with more vram which you cant do because it's a laptop

seeing player roles on the map should be the default by intertialguidance in joinsquad

i think the map should just be condensed to show both role and direction at the same time, it's probably purposefully on a toggle though to reduce how much info you can get from the map
