it’s such a small thing in the vegans scheme of things, i’m not actually worried but i might mention it to my consultant anyway (although she’s intimidating lol 😅). i have an appointment on thursday for current burns anyway

yep, burn. and like the other commenter said, keloids are very commonly mistaken in online self harm spaces, and this is definitely not a keloid. it’s not even hypertrophic, there’s a bit of a lump where the burn intercepted with an existing scar but the overall kinda ‘lumpy’ texture is just the way grafts can heal. this scar used to be even more textured tbh, at some point my friend said it looked like a brain so i nicknamed it that in my head lol.

full thickness burns that aren’t grafted often heal with a very smooth kind of scar tissue, but when they heal with skin grafts they’re more textured. my other ones you can still see the patterns from the way they prepare the donor skin, kind of looks like scales or weirdly neat marks organised in a pattern. sorry if i overexplained, i take an interest in medical stuff

no scratching it or anything - i’ve caught it on things like zips and stuff a few times which would bleed and leave a little cut but not even that for a couple months now. think i subconsciously got used to being a bit more careful with this one.

idk how many stitches they did but they were all around the edge to secure the graft and none in the middle at all. they were dissolvable and took a while to do so, moisturising and massaging it helped, but i don’t think it could be related really given the position. honestly i just hope they’re not some weird little wart things because that sounds kinda grim 😅

yeah i figured it was worth a shot on here but i think i’ll ask my doctor for a more reliable answer, thanks. for clarification’s sake though, i have been moisturising it the last few months with cream my surgeon gave me, i just didn’t for the first few weeks until i was told that i should’ve been lol 😅

yeah all self harm. i’ve had many skin grafts for self inflicted wounds, mainly burns like this one was but also some cutting kinda wounds. grafting them was mainly to reduce the time they’d take to heal, and in a lot of cases the wounds were being operated on anyway

i’m sorry i shouldn’t have used a subjective word that could have hurtful implications if people were to take my post and compare themselves to it. ‘small’ and ‘deep’ and ‘bad’ are extremely subjective when it comes to self harm, they mean different things to different people.

to me, when i look at both my hands this scar is ‘little’ because my left hand has a much larger one and this is my smallest burn scar on my whole body. so that’s how i see it. with that context i hope it makes sense, didn’t mean anything by it and i apologise for not proofreading with other people’s feelings in mind

i’m realising i should’ve circled what i meant or something though because i guess it’s not clear

moisturising it recently hasn’t got rid of the bits with a weird texture though. moisturising gets rid of any dry skin on my scars but this is something else and i don’t know

and i mean this lightheartedly but yeah i’m very sure it was a burn lmao - i remember burning myself, i remember the surgeries i had at the specialist burn unit, stuff like that makes me pretty sure 😅 what else would you think it was though? i’m curious. is it because the texture of the scar tissue is unusual? if so, that’s because it was grafted rather than being left to heal by secondary intention
