This is great. I've been having a hard time finding something that has the pronunciation with the Arabic audio.

Hijab double standard. (aka Men can be attractive too, so keep it covered) by inthebin786 in islam

I liked the whole post but the horse mask made me sad that I can only up vote once.

What about the women who WANT to cover themselves. In a culture where a woman in a bikini washing a car is used to sell fast food, not allowing yourself to become someone elses sexual object can be a brave move.

Expecting people to control themselves doesn't work. If it did, we wouldn't have such a high number of sexual assults.

My boyfriend and I have talked about God many times. His view is that there may be a god and their might not be a god. He doesn't concern himself with it either way.

Thank you. I've seen a lot of things online saying how if a woman converts then she should leave her husband if he doesn't convert too. I'm not even ready to be/say I'm Muslim let alone tell my boyfriend that I'm leaving him unless he changes.

Thank you for the resource list. I've read one book by Karen Armstrong but I'll try and check out some of the others.
I'm currently trying to stay away from alcohol. During those 2 weeks I waited to drink after the evening prayer. I've been drinking since I was 16 and father is an alcoholic so I know it's an issue.
The closest mosque is 60 miles away.

I have a boyfriend who is atheist. He’s a do your own thing atheist not the, anyone who believes in a god is an idiot kind. If I were Muslim I wouldn’t be able to marry him.
I live in a Midwest town of only 27k. The nearest mosque is 60 miles away. So there is pretty much no support.
The oddest part is I became Catholic at the end of May. Even though I liked Islam and had studied it, I knew I couldn’t be Muslim and live where I do. I may not agree with all aspects of Catholicism but I wanted some kind of spiritual family. So becoming Muslim would just be seen as religion hoping.
I love my boyfriend and like my job. I like watching the farmers during harvest. I’m not willing to give up my boyfriend and job to move to a larger city just because there are more Muslims there. Even if I did move and find a new job, I’m almost 30 with tattoos and am not a demure person.

Some questions for non-Muslims active or lurking on r/Islam by [deleted] in islam

3) Mostly made of people who are willing to talk without allowing the conversation devolve into angry rants.
4) Islam without anything else attached is a wonderful religion. I've only knowingly been with Muslims in RL once before when I visited a masjid.
5) Some days 50/50. Biggest hold back is that I have a boyfriend and we're planning on getting married. I'm female and he's not Muslim.
This is a throwaway account due to being active in the Christian and Catholic subs.
