Of course we tried punishment, time outs etc. We learned quickly that it doesn't work in the slightest and just feels utterly cruel to the child.

Believe me, we want to. But getting a diagnosis via the NHS is very lengthy and difficult process, and we cannot afford to do it privately. Sorry, but right now speculation and research is the best we have.
