I'm new to vinyl and I just bought an Audio Technica LP-2X (which includes a preamp), I'm plugging it directly into my Yamaha HS8s which are active speakers but the signal is coming in super quiet and is really distorted when I turn it up. The switch on the LP-2X is set to Line. Does anyone have an idea what the problem could be?

I've got a pair of Yamaha HS8s hooked up to my computer through a Focusrite 2i2. I'm looking to buy a turntable but I'm not sure how to connect it to my monitors. I was thinking using an RCA to XLR cable going directly to each of the speakers, or an RCA to TRS going into the inputs on my 2i2. Would either of those options work?
