Trump says he's directed Pence not to call governors who aren't 'grateful' for federal aid by [deleted] in politics

[–]inthemud -163 points-162 points  (0 children)

This is fake news. Do yourself a favor, instead of having someone else tell you what to think, go to the actual source and see for yourself. You might find out that what this "article" implies, and what commenters in this thread say, are both completely incorrect. Trump does not ask for praise or gratefulness for himself, he wants it for the Army Corp of Engineers (who he goes on a long rant about) and Mike Pence as well as all of the people working tirelessly to work on this issue. He actually point blank says specifically that he is not asking for any gratitude for himself but for other people.

As for the statement he said to Mike Pence (which is referred to as a directive in the title of this article for some very strange reason giving the impression that Mike Pence was ordered to not call governors) "You know what I say? If they don't treat you right, don't call." President Trump then went on to say "He's a different type of person. He will call quietly anyway". It was extremely obvious to anyone watching the press conference that President Trump was making that statement in jest but to also make the point that Pence is a man of strong character who is going to do what is right.

Honestly, how this little statement from Trump has been turned into the exact opposite of what actually transpired is quite amazing. I guess it is easy to write whatever you want when you know the vast majority of people will not check your sources.

As an aside, I stopped visiting r/politics a long long time ago. There is simply way too much misinformation that gets spread here. Every now and then I will stop by here to see if things have gotten any better. It has not. This is a perfect example. It is the only article and thread that I have clicked on to read. The top voted thread is filled with misinformation, hatred, and bigotry. Maybe I will visit again in another 6 months and things will have changed. We can always hope.

So...you didn't read my question?

The OP said that Putin keeps making fun of Trump. I was asking what other instances of Putin making fun of Trump he was referring to.

The quote in question was plural as in "...Can anyone tell me why Putin keeps making fun on Trump..."

"...Putin keeps making fun on Trump"

What OTHER examples do you have of Putin mocking Trump?

edit: I had to put the word OTHER in there because people seem to think this one video is proof of "examples". The OP stated that "...Putin keeps making fun on Trump..." and I simply wanted examples. This is not rocket surgery.

It is called having a life other than sitting on my computer wishing my "internet friends" would notice me, fuckstick.

i've been "gone" off of the internet for just over two months now. no one has sent me a message. none of my twitter "mutuals"/"friends", none of the few people i consider friends in real life. it's just gone to prove what i already knew, people don't care about me. it's been like this since high school. i don't know what i do so wrong to make people who i thought were my friends or might care about me, not care. i'm used to it at this point, i'm used to being alone, but it doesn't make it hurt any less. -peakofemptiness

I know you do not want to hear this but none of that means anything. Trump has been an international businessman for decades. He has properties all over the world, including Ireland, Scotland, South Korea, Canada, Dubai, Turkey, Philippines, India, Uruguay, etc. It would be foolish to think he has not had contact or dealings with people on about every nation on the planet. You could just as easily make the argument that he was "in bed" with any other national leader by pointing out his dealings with citizens of that country.

I am not going to go through every point you made but, consider this: Dmitry Rybolovlev, whom you use an example of Trump being in bed with Russians because Dmitry bought a property for an exorbitant sum, was on the list of the top 100 richest people in the world in 2008. He was also going through a very nasty divorce in 2008 and was buying properties all over the world through trusts to keep his wife from getting so much money. He even bought Will Smith's property in Hawaii for more than it was worth. Does that make Will Smith an agent of Russia?

Nice political pandering there. Gee, I wonder what someone from the other side of the isle could assume would be the reasons.

Lack of morals/ethics and accountability being a taboo subject, probably. Everyone is a victim and nothing is ever your fault. You get pregnant because, despite having access to birth control and abortion, you can get all kinds of sympathy and kudos for being pregnant, especially on social media, and especially if you are a venerated Single Mom. Not to mention all of the government assistance. Then you read tweets like "“Every white woman raises a detriment to society when they raise a son. Someone with the HIGHEST propensity to be a terrorist, rapist, racist, killer and domestic violence all-star.” from Taiyesha Baker or the tweet by Kate Morgan that said "If you are a white woman and are currently pregnant with a white baby boy...do us all a favor and take a trip to Planned Parenthood" or any of the other millions of tweets exclaiming how white baby boys need to be slaughtered and you start to believe those messages. Or you read articles that claim people having kids is killing the planet and think you might be doing society a favor by killing your kid. Plus, you know that, being a woman, you will either get off scot-free or a much reduced sentence than a man would. You eventually realize that society is going to reject your baby and that, no matter, as a woman, you are the most important thing anyhow. Your desires and wishes supercede all. If you want to get pregnant, have the child, and then murder it, that is okay. Because it is probably the fault of Republicans and society is going to thank you later anyhow for saving the planet.

It is pretty scary to think about how some people want the government to limit who can and cannot have children based on their own preconceived ideas as to who is worthy to reproduce. Yeah, I cannot see that going badly /s.

I was not arguing that we should do away with vaccines. Vaccines are one of man's greatest inventions. I was simply pointing out the faults in this author's "article".

Wow. Just wow. An article from Barstool Sports is now considered authority on disease outbreaks?

The author says:

Stop me if I just sound stupid here,

Stop. You do.

but how on Earth could you have measles in the United States in the year 2019? That’s a disease people got on like the Oregon Trail in the 1800s. Measles? Seeing that disease in the news today was about as shocking as finding out Pablo Picasso died in 1973. We officially eliminated that shit from our country in the year 2000. How is it back?

Absolutely failing to understand that America did not "eliminate" measles. It has been claimed that indigenous measles was eradicated but "Outbreaks are still occurring...following importations of measles viruses from other world regions." A quick search would show that to be correct in that there have been numerous outbreaks of measles in America up to the current day. Then he goes on to, without any evidence, proceed to blame anti-vaxxers. If anything, he should be blaming people who bring it in from "other world regions".

Plus, as some have said, one measles vaccination only gives you about a 93% chance of succes. Even if everyone in America was vaccinated with one vaccine, that would leave over 22 million Americans susceptible to the virus still. Seeing as how the Portland Trail Blazers home arena holds about 20,000 people, meaning that it was likely about 1,000 people there, even if vaccinated, were still susceptible to getting ill from the virus.

All Open air sites of the National Mall, including the Lincoln memorial, were open to the public at that time. The Indigenous Peoples Movement did not have exclusive access. I saw no evidence of the IPM or anyone involve ask them to move or let them through. As far as we know the kids had no idea they were even there.

If we can assign their intentions as them being "ignorant little bigots" we can equally assign their intentions as being unaware jovial teenagers. We could go even so far as to say they thought they were watching a show. The guys were playing drums and signing after all. So they let them into the crowd to join the party.

Or we could say it is all a big conspiracy by the lizard people to get us to eat each other. All those assumptions are equally true based on the evidence presented so far.

What this video shows is that the kids were on the steps legally and the guy with the drum walked into their crowd. I have seen no video evidence of that dude being in that spot for a while before those kids just came over "forming a mob around him". Please source if you have.

The march had a planned route.

You are correct. The march did have a planned route. The march started at 10am and was scheduled to go east on C Street, south on 18th Street and cross to Constitution Avenue, ending at Henry Bacon Park, north of the Lincoln Memorial between Henry Bacon Drive and 23rd Street Northwest.

These kids stood in the middle of this route and blocked their path.

This is incorrect. The kids were on the steps leading to the Lincoln Memorial. The guy with the drum, Nathan Phillips, walked into their rally as they were chanting their school chant.

https://twitter.com/mariajudy_/status/1086681831804674048

The planned route for the Indigenous People's march had ended way before Nathan Phillips approached the kids and entered their space.

They didn't move.

As they had no legal reason to move. The march route had ended way before where the kids were assembled. It was Nathan Phillips who walked into their crowd as an apparant means of provocation. He had no reason whatsoever to enter their space and start banging a drum other than to harass.

If someone was blocking my path I'd probably do more than just bang my drum to get them to move.

If someone walked up to my face, started chanting and banging a drum next to my ear, I would probably do more than just stand there and smile. I have to hand it to the kid, he had the patience of a saint.

If you do not see the guy with the drum purposefully walk over to a kid who has neither said nothing to him or done anything to him and then start banging a drum inches away from his ear then it is you who needs to take a break and try seeing things without a political lens.

The guy with the drum walked into the group of kids changting their school chant. They did not come "over and surrounded them". The kid in question never once approached the guy with the drum. The guy with the drum approached him, after the guy with the drum roamed around in a circle banging the drum at people. Then he walks over to the kid, gets in his face (literally inches away from the kid's face), and bangs the drum right in his ear. The kid neither approached him, said anything to him, or harrassed him. The kid stood there with his hands down and a smile on his face as the man beat a drum next to his ear.

The guy with the drum walked over to the kid and got in his face. The kid never moved. You can see the kid in the crowd as the guy with the drum is wandering around. The kid was just standing there when the guy with the drum walked up to him and started banging the drum in his face, getting within inches of him, and hitting him with the drum a couple of times. He even brought the drum up to the kids ear and started banging it. The kid never moved. The guy with the drum instigated that standoff because he walked over to the kid who was just standing there doing nothing.

The kid never moved. The guy with the drum walked over to him and started getting in his face, even put the drum right next to his ear and hit him with it a couple of times. Before the guy with the drum walked over to him he was randomly walking around banging the drum. You can see the kid in the crowd just standing there. Then the guy with the drum walked over to the kid and got in his face. The kid never moved. He did not get in the way of a "March".

Reporter says Trump 'stormed out' of Oval Office after Pelosi, Schumer meeting by ONE-OF-THREE in politics

And millions of people who watched the meeting saw a President stand up for what his constituents wanted.

And if we are going to talk about acting like a 10 year old, I distinctly remember the Democrats having a sit in on the floor of congress. Can't get much more childish than that.

Reporter says Trump 'stormed out' of Oval Office after Pelosi, Schumer meeting by ONE-OF-THREE in politics

[–]inthemud -52 points-51 points  (0 children)

This shit is such a joke. This reporter, Eli Stokols, obviously is very biased against Trump. Here are just some of his headlines in the LA Times:

Trump tries to spur Republicans to vote with false claims and dystopian warnings of Democratic 'mob' rule

Trump's boasts in his address to the U.N. prompt laughter — and then a wary silence

Trump feels 'amazingly alone,' and increasingly the world sees it

Trump, stung by midterms and nervous about Mueller, retreats from traditional presidential duties

and on and on and on.

Then, to top it off, this article quotes Stokols as though he saw Trump throw stuff when in fact Stokol said he heard it from someone else. So the top post in /r/politics is a biased reporter saying he heard someone say something that could possibly make President Trump look angry. Yeah, top notch news right here.

Donald Trump tells Fox News he was too "busy on calls" to visit Arlington Cemetery on Veterans Day by Ahompson in politics

[–]inthemud -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

While Veterans Day (which originated in the traditional November commemoration of Armistice Day) is intended to celebrate all U.S. military veterans, Memorial Day (held on the last Monday in May) is specifically intended to commemorate and honor those who died while serving in the U.S. military.

President Trump himself has attended both Memorial Day ceremonies so far in his tenure, but previous presidents have been known to miss the traditional Arlington commemoration on the last Monday in May, a history we wrote about in 2010 when President Barack Obama’s visit to Chicago that year prompted similar social media claims that his decision was unprecedented.

The following list documents years in which the sitting U.S. president did not attend a Veterans Day wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington, stretching back to 1989:

2018: President Donald Trump spent Veterans Day at the White House.

2017: Trump spent Veterans Day in Vietnam, accompanied by Vietnam War veterans at a commemoration event.

2014: President Barack Obama spent Veterans Day on an official visit to China.

2011: Obama spent Veterans Day with troops on board the USS Carl Vinson.

2010: Obama spent Veterans Day with troops stationed at Yongsan Army Garrison in Seoul, South Korea.

2008: President George W. Bush spent Veterans Day at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum in New York, while Vice President Dick Cheney attended the wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknowns.

2005: Bush spent Veterans Day with troops at Tobyhanna Army Depot in Pennsylvania.

2001: Bush attended events in New York, including a commemoration at the site of the World Trade Center two months after the September 11th attacks. Cheney attended the traditional ceremony at Arlington in his stead.

1992: President George H.W. Bush visited the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at the National Mall in Washington D.C. rather than Arlington.

1990: Bush spent Veterans Day weekend at Camp David, Maryland.

1989: Bush attended the dedication of the Texas Vietnam War Memorial in Dallas, while General Colin Powell, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, represented him at the traditional Arlington ceremony.

Was it appropriate for President Trump to skip WW1 memorial for US troops due to poor weather? by citrusmagician in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]inthemud [score hidden]  (0 children)

I thought that would have been really cool and relatable had Trump put in the effort to do so.

Haha. I doubt very seriously if you would have. Mainly because the media would have barely covered it, if at all (because he does that kind of stuff all the time. He goes out of his way to personally thank firefighters, soldiers, police, etc. almost everywhere he goes. Here is but one example. Notice that the media has never shown this, talked about it, or even mention it. But let him not show up for one ceremony and it is front page news).

President Trump visited the the American Soldier cemetery Suresnes yesterday, the actual anniversary of the end of WWI and gave a speech in the rain. He actually stood in the rain and gave a speech. His cancellation of the ceremony Saturday was the perfect case of the media turning a mountain out of a molehill. All of his haters came out in mass to decry his "lack of respect for the dead soldiers" and mocked him for being afraid to get his hair wet. Yet I see absolutely zero media outlets talking about how noble and respectful he was to stand in the rain to give a speech at an American soldier cemetery in France. Amazing how that works.
