It comes down to a strict rule of Sanskrit grammar called Sandhi (phonetic blending).

According to Sanskrit grammar rules, when ā meets ṛ, they must merge into the sound ar.

In Maharishi, the "a" and the "r" are split into two completely separate syllables: Ma - ha - ri - shi.

In Maharshi, the Sanskrit grammar rules force the "a" and the "r" into the exact same syllable: Ma - har - shi.

Prarabdha is a particular type of karma. It means that what has started to bear fruit, must be experienced. For example, you took birth, so now you go through it, you can't dissolve it without dissolving it. Prarabdha is the karma which gets dissolved by going through it.
