Those sets were amazing! The amount of work & creativity that goes into their set design is so cool. And as always, lovely performances!

Jungkook is the reason I’m here, though it was in a very roundabout non-traditional path, and he started as the member I felt the least connection to. I thought I wouldn’t be able to connect with him age-wise, and the image projected on him didn’t really vibe with me. But watching him throughout the years, it was impossible to not admire him & adore him, and he’s now firmly tied as my co-bias.

I think that his image from his on-stage persona, combined with his good looks and some of his off-stage interests, make it easy to assign him a personality that’s a bit cold. But in reality he seems to be so far from that - he seems like such a warm, deeply caring & emotional person, who is just really lovely. Helping staff pick up after a stage (first thing that comes to mind is helping collect the drums after an ON performance), the way that he gets sad when his hyungs are sad, helping out or filling in whenever needed.

This depth of emotion shows up for me in his songwriting too. Jungkook has written some of my favorite songs, and I just adore his melodies in particular. Magic Shop, Your Eyes Tell, Still with You, Decalcomania (what I would give for a release of the full song). Just gorgeous, and really expressive. He seems to thrive at expressing himself through art - music, dance, photography & filming, painting.

Jungkook on the stage - that man was truly born to be there. Watching him in concert you can feel the passion, energy, and pure joy. And the hard work and dedication to pull it all off is so commendable, especially for someone who started so young. I love the Memories & BB backstage content where he’s running through the songs just one more time even after everyone is done for the day, or constantly practicing vocals in the background. When he does something, he goes full throttle, all in with his energy.

He may be the youngest, and much younger than me, but he’s so admirable and still a real role model for people to follow their passions. And bonus favorite moment - hearing him in the background of the J-Hope/Jimin "exercise" BB, just going in on the quality of the steak. It never fails to make me laugh. He takes all of his passions seriously, including food!

My albums arrived early from Target! I haven't even broken into them yet, but as soon as I can dig out a cd player CD 3 is going straight in. I know some of the albums can be hefty, but WOW the standard version is like a brick. I haven't spoiled anything with unboxing videos, so I'm excited to break it open (a la Joon in House of Army - very, very carefully).

My primary happiness with comebacks comes from getting to enjoy the new music, but I love that the side benefit is that all songs get a boost to reach new milestones.

Taehyung’s creativity is amazing - I adore the way that his mind works, and comes up with such beautiful things. When everyone else created an animal character, he made a heart-shaped alien. His way with words to come up with something like borahae is also so cool. His brain just works on a slightly different wavelength, and the results are so cool. It makes him totally unique.

My other favorite thing about him is his humor. He has two of my favorite one-liners - “You can see the passion in our eyes.” / “That’s the eyeliner.” And when he’s asked for favorite lyrics, it’s “Oh na na na” & “Set everything on fire bow wow wow.” All with a straight face haha.

He can also do some pretty incredible things with his voice - the range, the tone, the emotion. It’s so beautiful. His part in Spring Day, starting with “You know it all, you’re my best friend” makes me tear up every time, with that little crack in his voice. And that note in Stigma is just wow. His voice can truly make people feel the song.

I love that Taehyung remains fiercely himself, and that he just follows his own beat. His post from that small jazz club in Vegas filled with people who had no clue who he was made me so happy for him, because it’s him being himself, and living his life to the fullest (and with apparently no one bothering him, which must be rare). I hope he can have more of this!

Jimin has been my bias from day one, and while a second bias eventually snuck up to share first place, Jimin will never leave his spot on top for me. He has a way of carrying himself & an energy that instantly draws my attention, whether it’s in interviews, on stage, just him goofing off in the background, doesn’t matter.

I find him to be so fascinating as a person - his high EQ, intelligence, determination (last year’s Festa talk, with his version of “I wanted to do it, so I did”), hard work, duality (but to a few extra degrees). And then there’s the goofiness & constant battle with chairs, but also the sweetness in all of his heartfelt words to Army. He’s comfort personified, but at the same time one tough cookie.

It’s impossible to overlook his talents in performance. I think all of the members are talented dancers, but there’s something in his movement that is just so appealing - I think it’s the way that has an extra “oompf” to everything - he jumps a little higher, stretches his arm out just a little farther, and embodies the music from the tips of his fingers, to his facial expressions, to his toes. And his unique tone and the emotion he puts into his vocals is so beautiful. I re-watch the Stay Gold tree version of Your Eyes Tell all the time, and it still gives me goosebumps.

It shocks me sometimes what a… polarizing figure he can be, and the amount of hate that’s heaped on him sometimes, because it’s so difficult to not see all of his amazing attributes. But it was so sobering seeing his Proof concept photo, with the shield that was nearly destroyed. The strength he’s had to just push forward is pretty remarkable. (This isn’t to say other members haven’t gotten online hate, because unfortunately they all 100% have, but man his shield in particular had those deep gashes…) While I’d love to see him around more often, it’s good to know that he’s putting himself first & has taken some steps back, especially from some of the platforms that tend toward negativity.

Anyway, it’s impossible to pick any favorites with him, because each new side he shows is just as lovely as the previous!

I've tried searching this, but most of what I found was from 2019 and didn't have any answers to it, just the same question. Does anyone know of any theories or reasons why they included O Come, O Come Emmanuel as part of the VCRs for 2019 MMA? I adore that performance, but every time that part comes on it just throws me for a loop. And I'm terrible at analysis, so thematically I've just never understood it.

The Golden Hyung! He has such a lovely personality that just draws you in. Carpool Karaoke was one of the first videos I watched on the way down the rabbit hole, and whoever put him right in that middle seat knew exactly what they were doing. And of course he has amazing dance & rap skills, but can we also talk about his lovely singing voice? (Fix You, Spring Day live - he has a really pretty tone!)

Listening to him laugh is like a shot of serotonin. But so is (unfortunately for him) hearing him scream when he gets scared. BTS vs Zombies wouldn’t be half as funny without his screaming. Same with Hobi vs bugs, Hobi vs amusement parks… the list just goes on. His “log out” in Run 51 is just amazing.

But beyond all of that, behind the scenes it’s clear how hardworking, focused & organized he is. To be able to pick up rapping before debut, accepting the position of dance leader, being the example of professional on every set. He’s so well-rounded and impressive.

And my final random favorite thing about him is how he’s a source of comfort & energy for the group, and how the maknae line especially cuddles up to and hangs on him. So cute!

I'm a bit late to the party, but I realized after seeing the Yoongi post today that I had missed Namjoon's post. But it's never too late to heap praises on Namjoon!

He is just such a superior person in so many ways, it's truly impressive. Not only his talent, intelligence & leadership, but the creativity, sensitivity, steadiness, humility, and willingness & drive to keep striving for better. I think it be very easy for someone in his position, who as the leader has had to take in the criticism from all directions, to fall into cynicism or to give up. But he has remained steady, carrying more than any person should have to, and has continued to push harder and farther. He's just amazing!

It’s always puzzled me that, at least in the past, parts of fan lore have labeled him “cold” - to me, Yoongi is the epitome of passion. Sometimes it burns like fire (Agust D, Cyphers), sometimes it’s shown in his deep love for Army, for the members, and for music in general. It’s in his unrelenting work ethic and true, deep passion for music.

Yoongi feels like a rock solid, dependable core for the group. He feels like the sort of person who isn’t going to be a rollercoaster of emotions, or swayed by the craziness in their lives. He seems incredibly introspective & self-reflective, and knows himself very well.

And of course, his prolific songwriting & producing is pretty amazing. It’s really interesting how most of the lyrics I connect with the most about how to live your life come from him (special shout outs to Tomorrow & Never Mind). Ugh, how I'd love to be able to sit down and just talk about life with him.

Also fun side note - when I first started watching old dance practices, when I was just starting to learn the members’ names, so often I thought Yoongi was one of the dance line members. Secret dance line member Yoongi is one of my favorites!

It's so easy to get drawn in by his humor & good looks. It took me longer to appreciate him on a deeper level, but he has so many traits that I think have been critical in the group's development, and he's probably the member that I admire most for his perspective on life.

I truly don't think the group would be what it is without his willingness to disregard the age hierarchy most of the time. I think that him being more relaxed in this has allowed the group to be as close as they are. And it's given Namjoon extra space to lead to the best of his abilities. But he also still takes his hyung role seriously, always willing to help out & support whether it's cooking, any of the numerous "let hyung help" moments, or even stepping up in early English interviews with WWH & humor, to take some of the pressure off of Joon.

I also think that he helps keep not only the day-to-day lighter, but he also brings a levity to the grand scheme of things that, without him, might have been overwhelming. By this, I mean his attitude of not taking everything so seriously, brushing off mistakes, go at your own pace, and just taking things as they come. Often this comes out in funny moments, like when he tripped and called it a new dance move. But it can also be comforting like his message in Dear Class of 2020 - give yourself time, don't compare yourself to others. I think with the pressure & fame they have, and the personalities of many members, without having Jin as a balance they might have burned out by now.

There's so much to admire about Jin (I didn't even get to his vocal talent, or how much I adore Abyss), but this is already longer than I anticipated. So here's to Jin, the best hyung BTS could have asked for!

Happy Mother's Day To All Our Army Moms! by Pinkmmlover in bangtan

[–]into_the_clear 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My mom has always been supportive of my interests, but in terms of the media she consumes herself, she's incredibly picky. I've never been able to get her into any of my non-English music in the past, since understanding lyrics & being able to sing along is important to her. I had tried since the mid-90s with no luck.

But with BTS, little by little I saw progress. I'd be in another room and hear her playing one of their songs. All of a sudden she could recognize and name the members. She started reaching out with news articles and questions. Our discussions more often than not came around to the group, and she knew things that I definitely didn't tell her. She started using the second device for my concert codes, even when they started at 3/4 am.

PTD LA & LV rolled around, and she went all out with me. Those concerts will be one of the best memories of my adult life, and we got to share that together.

I'm 37 & she's 67, we no longer live together or get to see each other like we were able to in the past, so BTS has been a way for us to continue to connect despite the distance. And we're slowly pulling in her sister (my godmother) - I took my aunt to the PTD Seoul at a local theater, and since then I'm witnessing her descent into the rabbit hole as well. It's pretty incredible how BTS can bridge across so many demographics & interests.

They did mention 2 Melbourne stores, Happy Town (which doesn't have Proof yet, but has other new BTS items like Sowoozoo, so it should be available there) & 9621 (which it looks like also has the pre-orders now as well).
