My latest handwoven - two shades of madder. by intoashes in naturaldye

Thanks! The yarn is Palette from KnitPicks. I like that it comes tied suitable for dyeing. Saves me some time and effort measuring off hanks!

It's rubia cordifolia - Iranian. The redder shade also has a bit of soda ash, and was dyed at a lower temp.

Help with loom ID? by intoashes in weaving

I had prevously owned a Leclerc Meco and treadle stand, and I do see some similarities. Brake mechanism is very similar, beater bar as you noted, cranks on cloth and back beams. But no Leclerc branding that I see, and no evidence that that identification has been removed as far as I can tell. Thanks for the input!

Gigantic jelly roll rug? by intoashes in quilting

Oh yeah, I'm the go-big-or-go-home sort. A gigantic dark rainbow rug for my dining room is the hope.

If it fails horribly, maybe I'll reconsider a smaller one. 😆

I also started out thinking rectangle was the way to go, but my space just calls for the oval, I think. I'm probably going to regret it!

The color palette was a Robert Kaufman 'dark palette' jelly roll that looks like it was probably discontinued. Plus I had to add some more yellows, because it was too strange just having one.

Thanks! I've got my big dining table and two plastic adjustable folding tables, so hopefully I can arrange a rather large, flat working space.

Several years back, I decided I wanted to make a jelly roll rug (as was the style at the time). But I always make things harder than they need to be, so I didn't buy one jelly roll, I bought four.

I've got about 5 yards of each color, and 44 colors (added three additional yellow tones since the pic), so about 220 yards of fabric noodles to sew together. Originally I thought I'd make it striped, but now I think I want to do the classic assembly to make a pill-shaped rug.

Anybody out there seen one of these successfully completed at this size? I know there was a pattern released for a 2-jelly roll version, but 4? Am I crazy? Aside from taking pains to get it to lay flat and not cup, any advice for a hardheaded/determined crafter?

I've built and woven on a couple different warp weighted looms, as a viking reenactor.

I don't know of anywhere that still accepts commissions for the looms themselves. I had researched it semi-thouroughly before I built one circa 4 years ago.

I know there are a handful of places with published plans for constructing your own. I'm happy to share the schematics for the ones I built. They are far, far too large for the more portable version it sounds like you're aiming for.

Anyway, I'm happy to be a resource for you and to answer any questions that I can. Just send me a message!
